1980 Intimidator project
« on: January 28, 2020, 03:30:20 PM »
As suggested by the welcoming crew i'll keep you guys updated on my project.

This 1980 CVX20 Intimidator belonged to a friend of mine who was the original owner. Had some engine issues and was really in need of some restoration.
I rebuilt the 260 Mercruiser with all new internals to cure a knock on cylinder #1. Just reinstalled and finished an initial break-in process.
The boat is very original and I plan to keep the shag carpet and interior as much as possible. The seats are very soft but do need some wood repair.
I'll add some pictures as I start removing the oxidation and getting a factory shine and a new windshield should hopefully finish things up.
Not sure how rare it is, but I do have the original aluminum trailer it was sold with as seen in the pictures...

Here's some pics of a sample area before and after buffing. The finish is actually in really decent shape under the years of oxidation.

Really shines up well.   There are several Timi projects going on right now including myself.  Sorry I missed your introduction thread, but are you near the twin cities?   Curious if you'll be bringing that beautiful Timi out to play at the annual meet?   Seems the club is becoming heavy with Timi's and 23's.

I'm out in Hutchinson. Hope it's ready for the public early this summer and can make it to the get together at Treasure Island.

It's on top of the gelcoat... I'm planning on protecting it for now while I buff the bow, but I haven't decided about the long term plan. I've seen some pics here of remade ones that aren't exactly the same...not sure yet... I do plan on putting a new UPD windscreen on it.

We need to talk.

There are several of us that need wind screens.

I am going to start a thread about it,  would like to order them from American runabouts over in Germany.

Need to get a group together to save on shipping.

There price, communication and turn time shipping is much quicker.

I'd be in for a windshield.  As for the decal, Tim has the best info on authenticity, maybe if there is enough interest, we could get them at a group rate as well.

That decal stuff i had going a while back died.  The individual i had working on it basically kept sending me the same image without any of the revisions i wanted addressed.  My feelings are if I'm going to be putting it back on it better be very hard to tell it isn't original.  I don't want a caricature of a what could have been a caricature back in the day.  I wouldn't expect any of you to settle either.  I'll get back to figuring that out after the 23 is done.

And im in for a shield.

Im done hijacking your thread.

I'm interested in details on a windscreen. I don't want to lose the look of the decal unless I have one in hand to replace it.

Tim, do you have any of the artwork in your possession for the decal ?
Laurie said she would be willing to look into it.
Maybe with what you started, and the fact that Andy has one intact on his boat and it’s close, we could get this done

Is it safe to assume that many of these were removed as they deteriorated?

Just trying to link in Time decal thread.  There were plenty of folks that wanted one.   Guess the decision is for the moderators to break this off this thread(hijack) renew the old thread(stale), or create a new one.    Tim's thread was titled " Intimidator bow decal "
