Run On Rathbun 2 - Calendar Notice
« on: September 11, 2012, 03:28:51 PM »
OK ...
I've sent out a few personal messages, I'll open this up.

Strongly preferring an event date for June 7, 8, & 9 on Lake Rathbun in southern Iowa.

I believe most children will be out of school by then.  There are a whole variety of accommodations within the State Park (Resort Hotel, "Cottages," Resort RV Sites, State Park RV Sites, State Park campsites ...

This year's event saw most attendees camping in the south campgrounds - it was pleasant, access to a beach for leaving the boats during the day/evening (Corps. of Engineers & DNR do not recommend beaching overnight, the Corps could open up the damn and you might find your boat sitting on the sand with the "new" shoreline 6 feet away.  I will be recommending and pursuing the south campground sites again for 2013.

Anyone really wanting to attend with major calendar conflicts, please let me know quickly.

I will start posting detailed information sometime in December.

Dan good to hear round 2 at Rathbun Lake is on for next year!  At this point looks like my work weekends will let me be off at this point. So you can count Amber, my self and the Phoenix Rising In!

Thanks, Brandon.
We're still a ways out, so I'm not too concerned with collecting attendees just yet -
but I do want to know if there are any major schedule conflicts.  So far, that weekend looks good.  Glad to hear you'd plan on coming ... hopefully with that 140 from Joe ... :-)

The resort has hired a new sales person who wants to try and put something together and tempt a few of our collective to spend the night there.

Thanks for the early heads up Dan.
Was planning on attending this years meet.
Hope to be one of a large caravan heading down from MN.

Marking it in the calendar.

Looks good for now, kids will be out of school a couple weeks before.  We will likely stay in the basic cabins where Tom did this time around.

You going to organize the Iowa meet from the Twin Cities?   :D

Doran ... I think I'd rather organize it from somewhere else.  I could enjoy the visit better.
Probably won't be looking for the community support.  I'd like to do a group breakfast ... not cooked over a campfire on a sticking skillet!  I'm happy to make arrangements for a Friday night dinner, too - I just need to remember what didn't work out last time so I don't repeat it.

June 6th is the end of the school year for my kids, the following weekend would be slightly better for us (14-16) but not a deal breaker.

Any weekend in June should be fine for me that far out. I would be willing to help out if you need it too. We could also do it at Red Rock as well, it might be a little closer/easier to get to for some people.

I booked one of the 4 cabins at Honey Creek State Park for June 7,8,9, 2013.  There is only one of them left now for that weekend.  Sooo anyone that is interested in that last cabin for the 2013 Run on Rathbun should probably try to secure it.

I will plan on attending. 2nd time around is always easier.  Need to do a Lake tour, a full lap. Likely I will stay at resort hotel.

Awesome.  I like having the different places to stay, but all within a very close proximity.

Here's an idea ... let's see what you all think ...

Instead of a parade, I thought we might try to organize some drive-by's - we can set up a camera or two on a dock and just line up, make a few passes each.  Get some video and some action stills.  I rarely get out on the water with anyone else ... Kurtis & Doran are the closest to me, each more than an hour away.  I am the only one who can take still shots of my boat, so my only stills are with the boat at the dock, or at the beach.

I'm remember my old skateboard days, organized "competitions" where each person gets a few minutes run & a score.  It was always a blast to watch the other skaters, cheer them on from the ropes at the edge of the lot ...   We can set up with someone to make a pass and create some wake for everyone to "jump" ...

What are thoughts?  Any interest?  We could make a nice video with action clips of each attendee, name of member, name of boat, etc.

Same here, amber and I are in the same situation, no one else around to get video or action pics  of time on the water!

There's a local photographer who charges $50 for a one-hour on-site shoot ... she doesn't sell packages, all photos are sold individually, and not terribly expensive.  I wouldn't mind contacting her about the idea if we want to use our own cameras for video and let her bring out her equipment for the action stills.  $50 isn't much, especially if we split it.   http://www.melaniehawkinsphotography.com/index2.php#/info1/1/

We could do it from the shoreline right below the south camp ground where we all beached last year if the lake is at the same level.

Hey all, I'm making plans to join you...  as far as the time frame, this works for me.  I called and the Honey Creek State Park cabins are all booked, assuming they are probably all being held by club members this far out.  Please let me know if you hear of someone letting their reservation go as I would prefer to stay in one of those.  Thanks.

Glad to see your going to make Rathbun Mark! Tenting it isn't too bad, hopefully the annoying bird that kept us up the last time will not be heard in 2013! :D
