You probably just need to sand more. Maybe some of the oxidation when deeper in certain spots more than others.

Thanks for the reply..... Blotches were there before, during, and after wet sanding.  They are in the gel coat or perhaps a previous clear-coating. I am very perplexed.  They just won't come out.  I have even gone down to 400, then 600, then 800 and then 100 wet-sanding and they never go away.  Very frustrating.

Post problem/pictures on the national site (  http://www.classicglastron.com/phpbb/index.php  )  to see if any one has an idea of what they are ...

I was also wondering if it had been poli-glow'd or something too...

Ya. That'd be a fair guess.

What is Poly-Glow ?  I have a section on my 16 that has a sort of milky haze on the gelcoat that I cannot quit put my finger on.   Seems more like something was applied or coated over it.   Its not plain sun fade or chalking, its not calcuim or hard water buildup, I dont know what it is.   I was going to go after it with compound first.    It clears up when hit with acid wash, but then back to milky when drys.

I have a theory it's acrylic floor polish but that's just my guess. Google it. It's a sponge/wipe on finish for faded fiberglass. Overall the reviews are purty good IF you prep the surface properly. If'n ya don't it'll magnify areas where you didn't.

Yea that sounds about right.   Its hard but seems softer than gelcoat.  Ill know more when I hit it with the compound and polisher.  thank you.

seems right, it was some kind of acrylic Mop and Glow.  Machine polisher and compound took it off with some work, whats under looks much better.  Just need to hit with fine polish and wax and back to normal.

Hi everyone!
I haven't posted since last summer.  I found the cure for my blotched deck.  First of all, the problem was a bad previous clear coat sitting in the Texas sun.  I had to use a fairly strong paint and varnish remover to get it off.  I had to be very careful but it is working.  I am about 1/3 done.  I can't wait for real spring in northern Wisconsin to start again since I don't have a large enough garage.

It's been over a year since I posted on my project boat. I found out the splotching on my boat was a really bad clearcoat. I was told by a local boat repair shop that there was no hope. I would have to get a whole new paint job. So, I decided to experiment. I got a little bit of stripper and put it on a bad spot, watched it, I then took the stripper and clearcoat off, and it seemed to work. I've been in the process of stripping my entire finish down to the metalflake. It's not perfect but it's  ton better. After I get it totally stripped I will then sand it and wax it. I hope that will work. The boat promises to be  beautiful. After I get the finish done, I will then start on the upholstery. Will send pictures along the way.

Also, I want to restore interior to showroom original. I know I've seen pics of a CVZ interior restoration. Does anyone have those pics. I remember it was a fabulous restoration. I want to do the same.

If your only wet sanding down to 1000, you need to keep going. I sand mine down to 2500 in 500 changes ... 1000-1500-2000-2500. You can get it to shine like glass if you go that far..
