Title: MC1 trim pump upgrade
Post by: demian5 on July 19, 2022, 03:10:26 PM
Hi - I've about had it with the old trim pumps and reverse lockout switch. Has anyone upgraded to a trim pump with plastic tank and built in reverse lockout?

Do you have any insight as to mounting it, wiring it and plumbing it? Do I need a different block for the drive where the hoses connect?

Working on my 79 CVX 16 SS.

Thank so much!

I swapped out the old 898 rams and pump to the newer pump and XD rams on my CVZ.    I had to change the lines and hydraulic block on the leg because the fitting size  was different.   It did eliminate the reverse lock out.   Mounting and electrical should be the same.   Not a bad project, but you may need to adapt fittings on the pump?  I changed rams because the old ones I thought were too small, the trim up would not work unless you got out of the throttle.

Mine was giving me fits too. so I put new o-rings in the reverse Lockout and cleaned the *Censored * out of every thing then adjusted per the manual and it all works great now.
I was thinking of changing it all out too. buy decided not to.
Good luck with your project.

I don?t have a part number for it, but I know they make a retrofit unit. I pulled one out of a old Saray that I scrapped out. The pump has the smaller 3/16 fittings. All the mercury and MerCruiser parts manuals can be viewed online at mercury.com
