Title: 70s Vanson trailer Brown Paint?
Post by: demian5 on August 10, 2022, 02:37:14 PM
Under my 79 CVX16SS is a OG Vanson steel trailer. Its brown. I had a couple cracks at the tongue repaired and want to paint it with something similar and not just primer it.

Dows anyone know what type of paint was used?

Honestly I'd have no idea what they used in the 70's but i can tell you I've used everything from rattle can to truck bed coating.    Best longevity was POR-15 with topcoat.    Best overall for money, id go with TSC implement enamel.   My Glastron trailer i shot with thinned rustoleum.    Whichever you choose, be sure to leave a few drain holes to let water out    Hope this helps

Thanks. Its not rusted at all and whatever is on there is pretty darn durable.

If a color change is what you're after, just be sure to sand lightly to break the "shine" of the existing finish before top coating.
