V-166 Projects
« on: August 29, 2010, 08:39:17 PM »
I pulled the map case/cigar ash tray/whatever you want to call this thing out of my boat that the original owner made/installed.  It's kind of neat/functional, I just prefer the look without it & don't think I will ever have a need for it.  I'm assuming he used it for maps or other accessories, and I know he smoked cigars, it's pretty clean though.

I don't want to just throw it in the trash if someone can use it... you can have it free, I'll box it up and ship it to you,  just pay whatever shipping is.  It weighs 6.0 lbs on our digital scale (should be close to what the post office will say) and dimmensions are 20x20x8 (approx.) without a box.

Here is a picture of what it looked like in my boat, box itself, and what my steering column looks like under the dash.  It was built to just sit on the steering mechanism up front and then screw into foot rest/forward bulkhead with a few small angled braces which I have as well.

Let me know.  If there is no interest in it, no big deal, again, just didn't want to throw it out if there was.

Thanks Gregg, but honestly, yours is just as nice, inside and out... and you have tilt & trim!   Really enjoyed seeing your boat run on the water and up close.

We need to run em in formation!  Maybe next year.

ha!    I think Andy said it would do around 50, and the "bolt on" to the cavitation plate allowed to trim motor up without the porpoising.

Hey Gregg has anyone ever tried Compound W on those warts? Just a thought ...

Hey bring that GT on. I'll serve him a saltwater sandwich ...  Heh heh heh

He needs to raise the motor, lose that fin & grow a tail:

Edit. Yo Mark your boat looks awesome! As usual. Pristine if you will.

Thanks Doug!  Ya, you're haulin' "a__" at 55, that's got to be fun in your boat... at these speeds, you need to be wearing a set of these babies to keep the bugs out of your eyes...     http://www.paragear.com/templates/parachutes.asp?group=476&parent=189&level=2

What prop you using?  I'm only getting 35 with my 60hp wound out with the 13.25x17 prop, right at 5230 rpms (I bought and used one of those digital photo sensor tachs btw--worked great, thanks Brian), slightly over what I should be doing.  I know it's not a speed boat, right, but I still would like to go a little faster.  I've been looking for a 13x19p to try, when I ran across this today ......

http://dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/boa/1909976795.html

hhmmmmmm?  got me thinking.   I think it would be perfect on my boat... gain some speed, power tilt/trim, look good, etc.  Does anyone know if the bolt pattern is the same?  My transom is 20" (standard right?)... can you tell by the picture if this engine is the right length?  I'm waiting on them to reply, but nothing yet.  No phone #.   Also, is that price decent?  Figuring it will cost me another ~$300 to get it installed.

Tail works good, huh?

Gregg, good deal, glad you like it!!!! I've watched it many times myself.  It's tough to take good video when you're driving :)

I bet shortened clips would download fine.  I've never tried to upload video to a web based system, except one time I tried to download an entire movie we put together of the kids (it was about 5 min worth of HD) on Youtube and it was, go figure, too big.   With the Red Wing footage... we could cut the good clips out (remove parts like when I forgot to turn the camera off and it sat in the boat seat for ~ 5 minutes :) )  and post those individually... I will try to do that over the next few days.  I meant to do some of that yesterday, but ended up having to work on house projects all day.  It's been non-stop projects/things to keep me from the boat since I returned.

If it's the new style T&T it should bolt right up.
Shaft lengh is right , 20"
Price seems OK ...
You should be able to get that much for your motor !

Ya I believe it oughta bolt up. Tilt & trim is a major plus! Added hp don't hurt none neither ...

Looks like a good deal. Controls included is great. Just make sure to do a compression check, etc. And if it were me I'd insist on a sea trial before I paid the bill in full?

Thats a nice motor. Of course we'd like to see it at about 600.00 but I sold my 1985 50hp for 1200.00 about 4 or 5 years ago. Doesnt mean it was worth it but it was to me. Low hours, clean. The guy that rebuilt my 100hp and sold it to me made comments about how nice it was for an 85 when he did the swap. Just too small for that boat.

Well, no interest in the map case, so it's outta here.
