Is Your Vessel Eligible For Antique Status?
« on: September 02, 2010, 03:35:46 PM »
You might wanna look into it.

Just found out yesterday: In FL if a vessel is more than 30 yrs old, powered by it's origional type power plant, and used for non-commercial purposes. It is exempt from annual base registration fees. You pay only service fees. Currently $6 bucks a year.

Considering all our registration fees doubled in 9/09. Yes doubled! I'll be looking at a bill for $84.20 next August. I'm applying for antique status tomorrow ...

Worth checking into, like you say Doug.  Just fyi... our antique outboard motor club by laws state:

a.Antique:  Outboard motors manufactured in 1950 or before shall be recognized as antique.
b.Classic:  Outboard motors manufactured after 1950 and which are at least thirty (30) years old in this current year (real time) shall be recognized as classic.

From page 10 of the MN Boaters Guide 2010

COLLECTOR WATERCRAFT
Watercraft that were built before July 1, 1959,
and are used solely as a collector?s item, have the
option of displaying the boat registration number
and current decal on the forward half of the boat
on both sides on a detachable plate or board.
The number size, type and decal placement is
the same as noted on pages 3-8 of this guide.

The "Fees for Watercraft Registration and Titling" chart on pages 4 and 5 do not separate 'classic boats'.

It would appear that the registration fee is the same for all watercraft.

The detachable numbers was something I suggested to my State Rep. that was working on the bill. If you have a show quality boat that may sell out of state you don't want any stickers or numbers on it.

Doug, you might as well take advantage of all of the breaks that are offered. The logic of the lower fee is that antique boats, like antique cars, get used very little during the year, but you prove them wrong. We will keep your secret here on the MCGF.
