Serial number
« on: September 20, 2022, 01:45:44 AM »
I am taking apart my 1975 CV16 SS and I'd like to find the serial number.

Where should I look for the serial number that is pressed-in in the hull?

Thanks

Joe ..
Is HIN on Plum CV16 stern, your new CV16 outboard ?
Want to add it to the list in  " Hull identification number "  http://forum.cgoamn.com/index.php?topic=5964.0

Thanks.

I've just looked for it on my boat but there's nothing there.

It could be that it is under the paint that the last owner did.

The boat goes under complete restoration so the paint has to go anyway. I'll try to remove some paint with the paint stripper tomorrow and check if the number is there.

Your boat could be a 1972 to mid build year 1973 CV16SS.
Jan 1st. 1973 would have been when stern HIN was mandated.
Look behind dash on wheel side for glassed in paper tag with serial number.

CV16 history ..

1972 thru early 1973 would have had serial number plate on control board
Later 1973 models has plate on right side of steering wheel

Yeah, that is exactly what I have in my boat. I have also found the serial number plate bud didn't know where it was placed originally.
I thought there has to be the number "pressed in" somewhere in the hull. I will look for the glassed paper tag too.

The aluminum ID plate is in very poor condition and I will make a new one exactly the same as the original.

BTW, does someone have the Glastron and Carlson logos in some vector format that I can work with? I've started to recreate the plate yesterday and I need the logos for it :)

1973 CV16SS's were apricot ( dark orange )

Could you share your plate picture and serial number ?

I have pictures of two 1973 CV16SS's with different plates.
Guessing first two pictures would be early 1973 model year.
Second two pictures would be later model year, with HIN on stern.
BUT .. just guessing .. LOL

Glastron's model year started in August, and by your serial number I would guess your boat was a early 1973 model build.
So by the time the HIN mandate started, Glastron had already been building boats for five months.

You can read more about it here ..

Okay, as I'm still waiting for the workshop to make some space so I can start working my boat I can't just sit and do nothing :D
I have been replicating the ID plate. Here's the original one next to the printed copy.
I will make the new plate by screen printing it on a 0.5mm aluminum sheet. It should look exactly the same as the original.
The only thing that I still have to find is the punch press numbers for the serial.
