Title: CVX - 18 Dash Upgrade
Post by: Diamond Chad on April 17, 2016, 06:12:16 PM
With a lot of help from rhiene, finally have finished product on the dash project.  Built 2 parts to make it easy to embed different graphics and for more strength.  Base part is 1/8" black PVC smooth. Suitable to apply various graphics like vinyl wrap or 3M Di-Noc which has great carbon fiber creations. Top layer is 1/4" poly-carbonate clear, very strong and scratch resistant.  They have to be built in lots of 5, so I have 3 extra sets if any members are interested.  Here is some initial pics and should have some pictures with the fresh white gauges and switches installed later this week.

Remember our other boat is a mahogany wood 1957 Dunphy, we laugh when we take it out, after hitting it with the lemon pledge, that its like taking your coffee table out on the lake.

Old and new. Just need to file the corners of the switch holes, they have a radius from the cutting tool.

Chad,

Very nice outcome. Looks like someone got their winter homework done. Can't wait to see it mounted up.

Accent lighting floods clear dash when interior lights selected.  The camera makes it look white, but actually it is red led strip light.  The reel of strip lights has enough left to illuminate a down facing strip under the rear seat also.

Purty slick. The lights add a nice touch.

Can be replicated in blue, I am documenting the steps, and had 5 of sets of parts made. Let's see how it shakes out after final install. Stay tuned.

Home stretch.   Built a stand so it would quit falling over and sit strait for the glue.

Pre wired the ground, dash lights, and power ready to go in.

Placed a dot of clear silicone glue between each LED all the way across the top edge and placed the LED strip squarely on the clear Polycarb. taped and clipped to hold in place while glue cured.

While cleaning up the wire harness and discarding the previous owner mods, I found they used the pickup tube for the speedo as a place to tie wrap extra wire from the aftermarket depth gauge. Pinched it flat more than half shut.  Who knows I might have another 2 mph hiding in there.
