Thank you & Thoughts for 2015!
« on: August 17, 2014, 06:55:08 PM »
While its fresh in my mind...

First of all, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came!  We had a terrific turn out!  You make this website, this club and this meet the great event that is has become!  Bob and Margi had nothing but great things to say about our group again, and the campers look forward to us every year!

Second, I have to Thank our volunteers:

Gregg (aka...co-organizer & the bank) - Thanks for all the help on the bank side of things and all the work you did making coffee, helping at the tent, and all the work you did helping to make another great meet happen!

  • Terry & Nancy for manning the tent Saturday morning!
  • Jim Barrett for helping out with the safety briefing and "Jim's Towing Service" for our one boat with issues.
  • Shawn for providing his bucket of "goodies" & the awesome can koozies!
  • And VANCE!!! Thanks for all that you do for the club with your videos!!!  (Thanks Terry C, I knew I forgot someone!)
  • Last but not least, Laurie (Mrs. TheDeuceman) for her awesome work on the commerative sticker (and to Red for footing the bill so they could free for everyone).
  • If I've forgotten someone, please forgive me!  It was a busy few days!!!

For 2015:

1)  We're going to add in the Friday AM run through the lock & dam to the sand cove by Treasure Island.  Hangout, grill, swim, etc.

2)  I'm going to work on driving us more towards a set schedule so that folks can depend on launch times...I heard some frustration

3)  The meal.  I pinged most folks about my idea for its reincarnation in a different form, and I'll be working on that over the winter.

4)  Space!  Yes, Tent City was crowded...I've already discussed that with Margi, and we can absolutely reserve the new RV stalls (that used to be grass) for more elbow room.  Unfortunately, its that, or we cap the lawn space and move some folks out to the entrance road...which I'm not in favor of...however, that could be the 'quiet' area for those that want it or need it.

I'll post the budget in a few days.

Sound off below, what else?

First off a big Thank You Doran, for all that you do for the forum, the meet and everything else.

I agree with the Friday run in the morning up to the cove for lunch and some swimming.

Set schedule with approx time and locations would be great for late arrivals. That way the could still head out and know what direction to go.

Already looking forward to another great meet next year. Can't find a better group of people to hang out with. Just too bad it is only once a year we all meet up.
I think this has become an addiction.

I still think Mike intentionally doused us with that wake! When we went out again we hit the same sized wake in the same place and were fine! Course he didn't have 300+ lbs of weight in the bow that time either!

Yes, agreed!

I've got in my notes that we need to post, on a board or poster by the Welcome Tent, an "Events Schedule" so that when anyone arrives, if we've left, you know where to go to find the group.

It was our first time on the river ever, but we figured out the lock thing by following a houseboat in front of us and running into Jim on the other side of the lock, who gave us a heads up of the location.  It was a little slice of heaven!

Thank you Doran, Gregg and the whole Barrett family for a great weekend!
I would also like to thank Joe B for being our "tour guide" on our trip from Hastings to downtown Minneapolis on Friday.  We navigated through 4 different locks during our cruise which started just below lock and dam 2 in Hastings. The trip, including fuel and lunch, took almost 9 hours. I have posted pictures in the 2014 video and picture thread.

Thank you Doran and the rest of the crew that made this meet happen!  We did the tourist thing and didn't have enough time meeting everyone at the meet,  but really enjoyed visiting with those of you we did meet.  The Saturday run looked fantastic and thanks to all who have shared their pictures.  Looking forward to next year!
