Quick search says they started in 2000 how do you tell.
Does that mean they are easier or harder to crush.
-
I'll give ya $250 for the hull in picture #1.
Ya got a deck to go with it ?
I'll go $500 if it's on a trailer ..
:o ??? :P

Typically, VEC hulls have a VEC label on them....this is allegedly a 2000 Glastron GX 185. Also, my understanding is that VEC boats don't have wooden stringers, etc.
-
My Larson brochures only go up to 1999.
But found this ..
You would think it would have the "VEC" emblem on it ?
-
Maybe - VEC wasn't universally used until later (at least by Glastron). My 2001 185 GXSF (Ski and Fish) is not VEC (special hull / different mold to mount trolling motor) but the regular runabout is VEC (185 GX).
Is there anyone from Little Falls out there that might have worked at the Larson / Glastron factory?

A guy I work with here at Msp was production super in Little Falls, he started in 2001 or 2002. The VEC transition started in 2000. What it boils down to is if it has carpet in it it’s a standard layup with wood stringers and floor. If the floor is fiberglass that would indicate it’s VEC construction. And of course all the VEC boats should have a badge on them indicating that

I’m interested in the pair of buckets.

Seems kinda sad a boat that was new in 2000 is headed to the crusher.
-
Your right Mike but it needs a new long block and all new interior as the boat has been sitting uncovered for 8 years. Not sure Of the condition father floor and stringers are.
-
Ok Allen are you interested in the pedestals also or just 5he seats

Looks like room for a V-8, outdrive looks good, albeit a Penta. sure someone might need that. Was a nice boat when new.

Just out of curiosity, what's the issue with a Penta outdrive? My experience has been that Penta has a smoother transmission than Mercruiser in boats of this era. Not looking to get into a holy war - just curious about your point of view as I am thinking about an engine / outdrive upgrade in the future in my boat.

I know very little about the newer Volvo drive shown in this Larsen, they made significant improvements over the Volvo designs in the 70's. Those old drives had issues with part availability, pricing, and sealing issues. Many folks dumped those drives and retrofitted Merc drives. I have nothing against the Volvo's, just not as common.

That is true - Mercruiser has a huge aftermarket.
