What paint can i use on the black mercury motor?

Dave showed me a little trick for small chips ...
Spray some of the paint into the cans cap and use a match from a match book (the paper end) to dab on chip area.
Let dry for a day or two, then use wax or compound to go over area to smooth paint.
Works great ...

There is always the Mercury spray cans or I am sure that Mercury marine sells it by the gallon. For painting the lower unit on the 1988 Mercury, my auto body shop painter analysed the color and used PPP paint, claimed it was higher quality than the Mercury paint. The cowl was then clear coated, but not the lower unit.
