New to the Forum and Glastron Ownership
« on: August 28, 2018, 11:11:21 AM »
Hey everyone! I recently purchased a 1972 Glastron V-176 swinger in great shape; it came with the original '72 100hp Johnson. I love the boat so far! I only owned one old fishing boat before this, which had a 1975 70hp Evinrude on it. I am a novice, but I like to learn and work on things myself. On the Glastron I bought I am going to redo the flooring over the winter, like using Nautolex flooring and I need to find the center windshield for the boat as it did not come with one. Other than that the boat is all together in great shape! If anyone has any leads on a windshield for this boat let me know!  I look forward to being part of the Glastron forums!  - Josh

Welcome to the forum Josh !
Nice lookin' Swinger ..

I had a 1972 V-156 with same windshield set up, I had the center window, but I never used it unless it was raining or cold.
I finally just removed it .. But though about making one out of a clear vinyl and installing snaps in metal frame.
If not needed you could roll it up and place it in side pocket.

My 156 also had a vinyl curtain that covered bottom of pass thru, to completely cover front.
Picture is snaps for cover, worked well for rain and cold and would roll up and fit under bow seat storage.
Sorry no pictures of it, it was blue vinyl just like interior vinyl.

I'm sure you could find a replacement window but they rattle and have sharp edges.

Thanks for the suggestion on the plexiglass or clear vinyl and snaps - I may have to try that! I am also looking for a cover, like the original, for the rear end. Anyone have any suggestions of where I could find on of those?

I am super pumped I found this group and I can't wait for another get together in Minnesota next summer!

I had a 73 V173. It was also missing the center windshield but it never bothered me. My V173 also had a vinyl floor like yours. I had carpet just laying on top that fit really nice. I liked that. Easy to clean out. You'll likely never find one of the original vinyl covers that some of these boats had. Best bet is to get a bimini cover for it if that is what you want. Otherwise, if you want a cover just for towing or storing (cockpit cover) we have a thread with a few shops in town that will custom make one for you but cost will likely be around $800.

Thanks Jason! We likely will go with the Bimini top... I may try the clear vinyl or plexiglass if I decide I want a center windshield. Thanks again for the help!

Some clear vinyl, not sure about gauge ..

Even if you do find a original top, it will be 50 years old and not fit because it has shrunk.
Do a search for boat tops or something similar, pretty much any size and style you need online.

I see you still have side track for attachment of top, you'll just need the hardware ...
