New winter project:cvx-16 x 2
« on: October 25, 2014, 08:02:08 PM »
Time for another one... I 'll call it little blue.    79 cvx-16 should be a good one, although I think they all are in my opinion.  Check out the custom "fleet farm" seats and the classic glastron soggy floor. The woods all bad but the transom has not been busted out yet just soft. Motor is a merc 115 "tower or power" ran well last year but I'll see what happens.. Said he put new bearings in it two years ago,but almost didn't make it home as you can see in the pic.     With any luck I'll have it done for the gathering in red wing next year. And it will make a nice little sister to big blue.

Nice project. You have a lot ahead of you but it's possible. Another trailer recommendation is ditch that big strap for a pair of transom straps. On that roller trailer if the front strap failed (mine did) the straps at the stern at a 90 degree angle to the hull are the only things keeping the  boat on the trailer.

Those seats are great.

I agree on the transom straps, the one on it now was just to get it home. It also came with a Chrysler 55 hp. No spark in one cylinder, anyone know anything about them?

Good news is somebody already dug the 'flotation boxes' out for you ...

Y'know there's really not a whole lot to those hulls, structurally. Transom, center/keel stringer, and floor. That's purty much it.

Godspeed on the resto. Look forward to seeing it in Red Wing.

There's a few good CVX rebuild threads over at CGOA, if you'd like to look them over before starting yours ...

Do you think you can save the flake ?
Hard to tell how bad it is from pictures ...

The 16 is a lot like the gt150's and I've done two of those and the floor in my 23 so I think I can handle it and have it done by next red wing meet. The flake has lost all it's clear but is still in fairly good shape and should be able to save it. The rest of the hull is in pretty good shape with only a couple gouges and should be able to fix with colored gell coat.  The biggest problem now is the axel looks like it's shot because of the bad bearing.   Time will tell. And there is always the hidden stuff..

Consider this as you plan the floor.  We are very happy with the results, the weight reduction, and the long term non-perishable nature of this floor material.  Like express composites said, "this stuff will change your life"."

Time to start on the cv-16's, to nice of a day to let it go to waste.  Started on the silver one today got all the interior out and the floor doesn't look to bad once I can see it.. Got it split in half and the transom is definitely rotten and the floor still doesn't look too bad, will find out tomorrow when I cut the transom out. And down to the bottom.

yep... all the wood was rotten. Took it all the way to the bottom. Will cut the stringer out next then put it all back together.    Fun,fun,  this boat has not been in a lake for three years and was inside all winter and was still full of water when I got to the bottom.
