Glastron Trailer Q's
« on: July 08, 2011, 09:37:29 AM »
Ok, I'm considering picking one up (Listed in classifieds)
Would be good for my potential upcoming project.

Couple Q's:

Weight?
Single axle. Hydraulic Brakes
It is a trailer for 18-21's, Factory Aluminum Trailer....
I think the tag says T 195 or something? Hard to read. Unsure of model

Original manufacturer?
Pretty sure Glastron didn't actually manufacture them? Or did they?

I've done some searches but not finding stuff here. I'm sure it's here somewhere, just not sure where....

IMO, surge (hydraulic) brakes are good for any application.  If set up correctly, they virtually eliminate extra braking on the pull vehicle.  My yukon was almost 'pushed' thru and intersection on Hwy 65 by the boat/trailer I was towing due to surge brakes out of adjustment.

Then, towing our pontoon, 24ft, dual axle bunk trailer, I could feel the surge brakes actually pull the yukon to a stop.

Remember, even tho mfg'ers do not put brakes on ALL axles, that is the MN statute for towing with brakes.  You most likely won't get stopped for that infraction, but, if in an accident, that will come up.

Mine is a model T-V-195 .... I bought it. Apparently an original trailer for the 195? Still don't know the weight

Looks like it would fit a 20' just fine ;) Just gonna need bunk and roller adjustments to fit the boat that goes on.

$200 worth of work and she'll be a very nice factory trailer with new wiring and working brakes ;)
I'll be in it for $500 and my time/labor....

Paint is pretty good too.... a bit of scrub and wash and she'll look just fine.

If I get the project boat, crossing fingers, when it's done I'll paint or powdercoat the trailer to match

I figured, if nothing else, it is worth more in scrap than what I just paid for it ;)

That is NUTS!

My car trailer is a tandem axle but it only has brakes on one axle.

Maybe the MN government should be more worried about figuring out budgets.................

I pulled my Carlson for 20+ years on an old rolco trailer, I restored it several times, however last year I purchased a new Shorelander best decision I ever made.  Set me back $1500 but it sure pulls nice and loading is much easier, wish I would have done it sooner...

I had a shorelander roller under my last intimidator. Really liked it. Towed, launched, and loaded great!

Only thing that spooked me was being on rollers..... I know it's likely not a problem, but the load isn't spread much and all the streaks.
But, still, even with bunkers there are issues too, better load distribution, but scuffing the hull....

6 of one, half a dozen of the other?

I don't know, I just like the idea of a 'glastron' (Conroy) trailer under a glastron boat ;)

Nice find. I wish I had a lower set trailer for my CVX. I'd be able to use a couple of free launch sites instead of paying $5 - $10 every time I take the boat out. My trailer is great. Looks great. Tows great and is rock solid. Maybe a trailer that will set the boat a bit lower will come around one day.

Thanx Greggggggg!!! ;)

Well, it's not gonna move too fast.

Gonna have this thing in shape pretty quick, and hopefully within a few weeks have the new project sitting on it.

I'll be finishing off the attic at the new house, some electrical upgrades, couple windows, furnace/ac, etc, so the budget is going to be very limited.

I'll be able to afford doing all the wood (Stringers, transom, floor, blocking around the edges, etc) , but that's probably all the budget will allow for quite a while.....

I don't anticipate having this boat on the water until late next summer.....

Feel your pain ...
I'm at the bitter end of a home remodeling and haven't even got the boat out of the corner of the garage.

The house is looking great Gregg, and appears to be almost done!  I know you have to be glad to have the finish line in sight on that project.  I enjoy "play time" more when I know all the "honey-do's" and home projects are done.   ;)   Enjoy!
