Sad news.
« on: December 18, 2011, 10:32:34 PM »
It's very hard to say this, but I consider you all family, so here goes...

Today after 2 months of having our daughter in our home, she was taken from us by her birth mother.  We were informed that she has chosen to parent, and that we have no ability to contest the decision.  We were called with the news by our lawyer at 11:45am and the was taken from our home at 2:30pm.  We didn't even know it was coming.

So, lisa and I are greiving the loss of our 6th child.  We are $16,000 in the hole over this adoption with no possible refunds, and we are trying to come to grips with the reality that this was our last chance.

I'm not sure what to say other than we thank you for any thoughts and prayers that you have to offer both for us and for our former child.

I'll check in now and then, but Lisa and I will be trying to deal with this loss together for a while.

Toni and I have you guys in our prayers, It is hard to imagine at this time but your faith will bring you through this. Twelve years ago the same thing happened to us, the birth mother waited 364 days and changed her mind, I hope that if we can do anything to ease the pain you will not hesitate to call on us.

I have no idea your situation or if this will even apply to you.  Nor do I want to present you with any false hopes.  That said...

My sister went through a similar situation when adopting her oldest.  The birth mom was on the edge whether she could handle the child or not.  She went through all sorts of training on parenting and was given a shot at it.  It didn't work out, but it took several months for her to learn that.  In a bit of a compromise, the BM was written in as "Aunt Tracy" so she could make an appearance at birthday's, etc.  She lives in the same community so this all worked out.

My point...  Don't hold on to false hope, but leave the door open.  You never know what may happen.

What! Where did the 16k go? Oh that's downright dirty pool. Please forgive me but it sounds an awful lot like a scam?

Really blows regardless. Hang in there Bergstroms.

Very sorry to hear Brian. Same thing happened to the drummer in my band some years ago when he and his wife were adopting, there was last minute change of heart from the biological mother. He was out around the same amount of money too, payment for agency and support bills, etc. There should be some sort of insurance protection against that kind of loss but sadly I don't think there is. Hang in there buddy!

Well. Reckon it could be worse. Couple next door had been trying to concieve for awhile & finally decided to adopt. No sooner had they shelled out a ton of money & completed their adoption 'courses' when all of a sudden she got pregnant.

In a case of extremely cruel irony the kid was born with severe Downs Syndrome. Life ain't always fair is it?

I am so sorry to hear about this. After all you've been through!
Unbelievable!
I thought that at some point there was a "point of no return" for the birth mother and I certainly thought you guys were past that. How can they leave that window open indefinately? How cruel! I do not know how people can go through this. Very difficult. There is something wrong with the process. But thats besides the point.
Again, I feel really bad for you guys and I'll be thinking about you.
