CVX 18 On my way to look at it
« on: March 01, 2012, 05:29:30 PM »
Found a CVX 18 last year and was talking to a guy about it. I kind of forgot about it and then remembered at the Boat show. I emailed him last week and got a message back he is still looking to sell  and is moving so he needs to sell. Its right in my price range so on my way to go look at it I will keep everyone up dated and post some pics. He says its late 70's with a 302 and merc outdrive. Wish me luck.
I think this has become an addiction.

Yes, there was a 302 Mercruiser, I think it was a 888.

Nice score. My favorite Carlson by far, good luck.

Yep, looks like a 302!

Looks like she needs a "little" buffing. Can't wait to see what you are gonna do with her.

It is in decent shape might need new clear gel on the top. Has new carpet in already. New lower and upper gear case. Says he has warranty card for the upper. Seats will need redone. Said he had the prop custom made said it was a 23. Also comes with 2 other aluminum props. It is the orange color. I will post more picks when i get her home and cleaned up. Must have sat in the river the bottom is pretty dirty going to take some scrubbing. Where can I get the orange vinyl?

Congrats! Love the orange flake. The CVX18 is the ultimate Carlson hotrod, at least for this guy. My wife wasn't particularly thrilled when I bought mine as I had a CVX16. But that got sold very quickly and I haven't missed it.  ;)

I think the the 302 and 351 are the same block, could be an easy swap. Just say'in ;D.........LOL

And I don't think they came with the center console until sometime in the 80's

I bought the last 29 1/2 yards of a near perfect match orange from Silver State Fabrics in Utah. They had it on a close out sale for $5.00 per yard and it's a marine vinyl. All I'm waiting for is the local boat dealer near my house has a few salvage boats that I need to go grab the roto-molded buckets out of and then I'll be ready for the guy to start covering them and the new rear frame I built.

It's a smooth fabric but I was talking with a guy who's company was featured on a muscle car TV show that has the heat pleating molds for cars from the 50's, 60's and 70's. He said he can heat pleat a section of my material to look near to the original. It wasn't much either. Have to dig out my Glastron file from the file cabinet for his info.

I did the dash pad and had CVX-16 stitched on. Looks even better in person.

Nice find Shawn !
I'm not really a Ford man, but I don't have anything against them, just got attached to the small block Chevy, but I have had several boats with those 302 motors, and they ran good,  surprizingly so, probably the most economical V-8 you can put in a boat.

If you need to squirt some clear gel on it, I get mine from a place in Florida for about $60 a gallon, with activator and wax.

Ya nice find! Gel looks like it's in purty good shape. Yes that 188hp is a Ford 302. Bleve the Mercruiser designation was 898. Whatever that meant?

Now with 3 Glastrons I may have to sell one. Not sure but thinking the CV-16 its just a little to small for the family. And I really wanted a 18 when I found it. I also would have rather had a Chevy they are so much cheaper to do anything too.

What color carpet did they have in these? Some one has replaced it with new gray dont look bad just wondering what it should have.

I have to say I love my wife she didnt call a lawyer right away and divorce me when i told her I bought this. She is not a huge fan of 3 boats and 2 jet skis among many other motorized toys. I tried to explain the whole he who dies with the most toys wins but I dont think she cares about that.
I think this has become an addiction.

You have got to be kidding!!! Let me guess, you paid $500  for it. Doesn't surprise me. Regardless great find and great model. Gotta love the 18's. Big question now is how much for the 16? Remember what you said you would do if you ever sold right? Don't do it. Give it away. To me. Thanks in advance. Can't wait to see it.

Now that I looked at the pics, I know that boat, kind of. I looked at this last year. Saw the paint on the overhang if the motor. Dead giveaway. I loved the color, passed on it cause I didn't want another Cvx18 project. Did one already, l had the Intimidator in mind. Glad it went to one of the group. Let me know if you need any help. Congrats.
