New Starter..
« on: May 05, 2012, 12:09:49 PM »
So I went to start the CVX today and it turned over once then clicked. So I knew what to do right away.( this has happened before) I pulled the started out and pull the back cover off to check out the brushes. Very nasty in there from being under water and sitting end of last season.

Sense this isn't the first time I have had problems with it. I plan on buying a new starter. One thing I don't want is to be stuck out on the water again and have the engine not start.  So my question is: Does it need to be a marine starter? Or could I get one from local auto parts store?

Maybe I have been having problems is because mine might not be marine... Not sure. ???

Any advice on what is a good starter to buy that would be great! Thanks in advice!

Marine starters are sealed to help avoid explosive gas ignition.

I often send starters out for rebuilding....1/2 the cost of replacment. There are lots of rebuilders......should be able to find one in your area.  I would always use a Marine Starter.......
