Yep I got it Barb. Thanks for the info. If you could when you take pictures could you put a tape on it just so I might be able to recreate it incase I cant find one?

Thanks

Dan, the out drive seems to shift well but the cables are stiff. I am currently looking for a donor boat for a 350 and alpha drive to drop in her since I have absolutely nothing for an engine at all. mounts, pumps cooling system ect. at all! :P

Brandon,

You can watch my youtube video from my CVZ-19 if you like, maybe you've already seen it. I've been told by a few other CVZ owners that it is project inspiring, that may or may not be true, but it's also somewhat informative as far as the interior goes. I could give you a few pointers on some little tips and tricks I discovered along the way, that may make it easier by avoiding issues from the beginning. Also, I have no idea what your intentions with it are, but if you are considerring going with the original seat design, I'll be making new buckets for the Scimitar at some point, and could help there with patterns or making you a pair, something like that if you are interested.

The good news is though, that unless 2 CVZ's are side by side, no one will ever know its supposed to be different from the aftermarket one's you can buy.

Looking good Brandon, time to clean out the garage and start the process...

I saw this in Kansas City might be a good parts boat for your project, probable get you money back on the trailer, might be to far gone but your a mechanic...

I will keep that boat in mind Joe, but I might have a donor a little closer to home in hastings.

I would really love to start on the CVZ, but I have to finish up Phoenix Rising first. And regrettably I do not have a garage just a small work shop that I wish I could get the boats in there to work on. I plan on building a tarp shed to complete Phoenix Rising and then move it over the Fawkes.

That's a good deal in KC. Sell the tandem axle trailer and you just got a complete 5.7/Alpha drive packge for free. The trailer alone looks like it would fetch more than $600. Of course you'd still need to dispose of the boat.

Here is the donor boat I am going to go look at this weekend. Its only 45mins drive.

http://grandisland.craigslist.org/boa/3534870865.html

its a bayliner 22' capri with 5.7 and alpha drive, I am going to try to pick it up for $600-$800, and the guy states it ran 2 years ago. Its a little bigger boat to dispose of but looks to be in a lot better shape and does not have a tree growing in it. Plus that one in KC would cost me another $500 to $600 to go after because it is a 4 hr drive one direction.

Brandon it looks to me like it has an OMC Cobra, not a MerCruiser drive. Pretty common with Bayliners of that vintage.

I will find out for sure, I hope its not an OMC!

The bad thing is I don't have the time to make another run that far, and I probably won't till at least March or April.

I concur, that's got an OMC Cobra package in it, not a Mercruiser at all.

On the plus side the Cobra has the same key-hole cut out in the transom so it will fit in the place of a Mercruiser, and will use standard OMC performance propellers.

The downside is it's an OMC Cobra.

Well I called on the one in KC. The guy has never had it started does not know if it runs or if the out drive is any good. Might go look at it in another week. But I am a little hesitant to when it sounds like it has been sitting there for alot of years. He did say that he was willing to go down on the price. we will see what happens

Translation = Block is cracked, Outdrive is shot.

You have LOTS of time Brandon to find the right donor boat, I wouldn't even consider it Brandon...

That is my thoughts exactly, I have seen boats that cheap around here. I will say this, I am willing to spend the money for an operating boat, rather than one that I am not sure of that is on the cheap.

But if anyone knows of someone in the KC area that they can get to check it out, I would be willing to pay them for there time with in reason.
I will even line it up.

Even if the block is cracked you still got a fully dressed motor all the controls, and an Alpha drive system for basically free. So it"s worth a look in IMO. But true if it isn't the right deal, another one will always come along. I spent 2 years looking for the right donor boat.

Either way your on the right path repowering that boat with a 5.7/Alpha.

That's a good price for that hardware and trailer IMO, but getting there is always the hassle.
in all my searching over the last 8 months or so i have not seen much Alpha stuff under 1k, though all of my quests have been pre alpha/ford.
