CVX18 Redeux
« on: March 17, 2013, 10:19:55 PM »
Finally got the Glastron into the garage and the teardown underway. This is the way it looked when I brought it home in August.

My Boat'n Buddy Ethan stopped by to lend a hand. I spent the summer helping him repair and repower his Wellcraft so he was more than willing to spend some time on a Glastron.

Ethan says "Hallelujah the CVX project finally begins"

It would seem to be easier to get the boat on a cradle without the motor and outdrive.

Pulling the motor is next.

Building the cradle was next on Ethan's list.

Ready to get serious.

It sure looks like Ethan is doing all the work but I'm doing my share also. It just happens that I'm always on the backside of the camera.

Next up is to remove the previously repaired floor. I don't know if I should keep the original leaves or get new ones.

Here is what I found under the old plywood. The original waterlogged foam pieces are a nice touch!

Well, that's it for now. The tear down will continue and the questions will flow.

Very cool!  My brother and I picked up an all original version of the same CVX-18.  It will be cool to see one taken all the way apart and rebuilt.  I'll be watching.

Thanks Mike. You and your brother scored big time on that CVX. I'd have to rate it a Double G (Gorgeous Glastron). I'd like to see more pics if you would. Specifically the area behind the rear seat where the ski pole mounts also the storage compartments alongside the engine cover. I have the bracket but no pole and with all the previous repairs I'm not sure how it all fits together.

I use to have a '69 Jetflite but let it go without restoring it. That won't happen again!

My favorite also. However the Black on your boat is Awesome. Keep up the good work I'm learning a lot from your restoration.

John, you have the bottom half to the ski pole mount that goes through the engine cover?? I have the tow eye for my CVZ but not the mount. Mabey we could help each other out here. I will post pictures of the eye with measurements if you would post pictures of the mount with the same.

Thanks

Brandon, my bracket is a little different than Mike's with the ends attaching to the side panels of the engine bay.

It's 38" from end to end. If you want to use this style let me know and I'll send you more pics and measurements.
Mine has a spring and pin that appears to be a 1/4 turn lock setup.
How long is your tow eye?

Nice progress. Ethan looks like a boat rebuilding machine. I like the cradle too. Maybe we should have a spot where we can store pictures and measurements of all the various cradles people have built so next time someone doesn't have to start from scratch? Can we compile them in one place (archive) Gregg/Doran?

Here is the link to the Tow pole I bought

Tanks for the link.  From the picture it looks like tube steel with a hole for the locking pin.
Should be easy to modify if the diameter is right. The tube on my bracket is 1 3/8 ID.

Thanks Brandon. I'm working on the dimensions right now. What's the overall length of the pole?
