Sweet John! Got the drawings, need to take them out to the welding shop and get one made up. If you need the exact measurements of the hook in the bottom for your mod to the pole, would be glad to provide since I forgot that one.

Brandon, Measurements for the hook would be great. That would save a lot of guess work. Don't forget to double check the measurements for the offset to match the position of the hole in your engine cover, also the spacing between the 2 panels attached to the flotation boxes. Mine is 38'' check to see that yours is also. Thanks for your help.

Not much work done on the CVX today. Ethan came by to change the oil and install some belts on his pickup. After that project we tore into the boat. I removed the panel that holds the shift lever because it was loose and was afraid that there was some rot in the wood that is glassed to the hull. . Lucky day, just the lower screw hole were stripped out. I had purchased a multi tool after reading how good it works from those of you who have one. Ethan was the first to try it to cut out the foot rest/ toeboard. Tool works great and is less messy than cutting/grinding. Ethan was pleased but a picture is worth a thousand words.

Just a little rot on the bottom right corner so we'll cut a new piece.
Next was the gas tank. I found the tank to be in excellent shape. Just a little surface rust on the bottom right corner where the tank is fastened to the floor. Looked into the tank through the fill hole. I could see some surface rust on the bottom and some on the sides. Nothing heavy/ scaly.

You can see the rot in the bottom right corner where the tank sits. Looks like the tank will get some new plywood to sit on.

How far can you go on a tank of gas?

Found the original horn laying on the floor in front of the gas tank. Anyone know what that white/blue piece of plastic is? We found lots of it laying around when working on Ethan's boat.

That's as far as we got today. Only having Saturdays off makes for a slow project.

The blue-white strips you found are remnants of an old blue weather tarp after it stretches and disintegrates past its usefulness.

I got the ski pole I ordered from EBay and it is a really nice on looks to be good quality and well built. I figured it would be some cheap tin one but it is not I was very impressed for the price I could not make it
I think this has become an addiction.

I bought the same ski pole based on your order and I was surprised at the quality also. It's OD is  3/8 in. less than the bracket that I have so a quick mod is in order. Should be able to sleeve it and cut it for the quick release instead of the pin setup that it has now.

John, instead of hacking up the original mounting tube, why don't you cut it off the mounts and I will buy it from you. Then you can replace it with the correct size tube needed for the new tow eye.

Brandon, you misunderstand. I bought the same ski pole as Shaun, which has a 1'' OD tube and holes through it to secure it with a pin, that's what I want to modify, not the mounting tube. I'll use the original tube with the new pole. That is why I needed the pole and hook dimensions. The info you sent is just what I needed and I thank you for your time and effort.

I bought a handrail off e-bay on wed. and it arrived today. Excellent service from USPS and the e-bay seller. The only issue is a crack in the front bracket. That's not a problem because my original rail's front bracket is in good shape. Here is the new rail with the original rail in the background.

The new rail came from a CVX 16 OB and the only difference seems to be the center bracket is 6 in. further back than the one for the CVX 18.
Here the new rail is in the foreground leaning against the starboard rail.

Getting back to work I removed the transom plate and gimbal housing.

The wood around the cutout seems solid but tapping on the transom reveals a couple dead spots to the left and right of the outdrive.

On the left and right sides of he transom, inline with the top bolts, is an area about 6 in. square that is soft. You can push the fiberglass in almost 1/4 in. This corresponds with the dead areas found on the other side of the transom.
I don't know how you guys put the circles and arrows on the 27 8x10 glossy photographs with the paragraph on the back........sorry, I,m regressing back to my youth. I would like to know how to include arrows in my pictures.

I'm just using a simple share-ware program called GraphicConverter for Mac that allows me to draw, paint, augment, copy & paste, etc. on .jpeg and .gif files. It also converts files from one format to another, like .png files to .jpg if needed.

After work today it was out to the garage to get a little more dismantling done. I finished removing the shelf where the gas tank resides. The 2 pieces of wood supporting the bottom were rotted away. The floor under the tank and all the way to the bow was gone, the only thing left is the fiberglass mat which tears when you touch it. At the bottom of the picture you can see how the mat sags.

Look what I found under the dash . A BOAT PAINTED RECORD.  "Turn into computer operator at end of shift"
Extra points if you can tell me what kind of paper it's printed on.

I kept snagging the wire harness as I worked so I removed that from the boat completely. Two plugs under the dash and pulled it through the 'glass loops. Both plugs were in good shape with no corrosion. Having the harness out of the boat will make it easy to inspect for shorts, etc. While I was doing that I stepped on the gas line so that came out also. Being it's a copper line I didn't want to  damage it or replace it.
I moved on to examine the flotation boxes. It appears that the port side was repaired at one time. A few drywall screws and the panel comes off.

Flipped it around and placed it against the starboard side. Pretty good fit.

Looks like I have an instant template for the flotation boxes.
