Help! Morse controls..
« on: July 20, 2013, 05:10:51 PM »
After a great day on the river old blue almost... Let us down. when we first started out,it would not go into forward, after a jiggle of the control it went into forward and off we went. Then when it came time to come back it again would not go into forward,it would go into reverse no problem but I wasn't going to back up 20 miles.after a lot of jiggling and a few xx words, it went into forward and we made it back ok. Before I take the control apart to see what's wrong anyone know what I should look for in the morse control? 1978 cv-23 thanks I know you guys will know what to look for.

Mercruiser set up? More than likely its the shift cable going to the outdrive. If its an old cable sometimes the get water in them and start to rust or it was melted by the engine getting a little to hot at one time as it is routed close the exhaust.

I agree, there's very little to go wrong in the control box. I suspect the shift cable leading to the drive is either out of adjustment or going bad.

Yes it is a mercruiser, and I agree it's prob. The cable, now I just have to decide if I want to try to change it or let the pro's do it.  Has anyone done one?  I've redone everything else on this boat so I think I can handle it with the right info. thanks again, Bryan.
