Gregg I would want maximum negative trim if it were my boat. Your motor is pretty much the same thing I think as what was on my CVX16 and I don't remember it hqving that pin installed. Still if it makes the boat do funny things on plane then that's not good either.

i guess i would test and see what happens.

I " Believe " it limit's how much or how little the motor will trim in ...
Bad picture ... But it is on the second hole out from transom and looks like it (tilting part of motor) come's down and stops at the pin in question.
Our motors should have had same tilt & trim and transom bracket Kip ...

Might try removing it if take off is weird/bad ...

Hmmm I'm not sure. I'll look
Wouldn't negative trim push the nose in the water? What am I missing?

Just checked and yes I have one and its in the same hole as yours.

My unused 1988 115 HP Mercury came without a pin, meaning that the motor could really be tucked in. But I bought a pin so that when one accelerates from a start, the angle is just where you want it - the boat does not pitch up or down.

Negative trim should help any boat get out of the hole faster with less bow rise. Yes it pushes the bow down because it is lifting the stern. Their is no negative to negative trim!........LOL   One of the reasons i'm putting an Alpha series drive in my CVX18

Gregg sounds like everything went as planned and the boat preformed and ran great! The NIGHTMARE is definitely over. You got to be happy with 54.5 MPH for a top speed. Good to hear you were rewarded with all the hard work and money you put into the boat.

54.5 MPH is to fast for a CV & ME !
... LOL

It wasn't even the perfect chop for top speed, so might have a little more in her ...
You have to let off slow from that speed or ya get a roll/chime walk,  helped to trim in a little ... then back down throttle ...

Some other thoughts/problems/ideas ....

Lost one rivet when I went to get gas, on corner trim piece and lost one on transom "wrap around" trim piece on river.
None felt "loose" when installed ?  Maybe larger rivets ?

Got about a cup of water in hull, I remove bilge drain plug to try to grind some fiberglass out for better under floor drainage.
Sealant didn't rip or tear so I thought it would seal ... I'll redo the 5200 on drain plug.

I did some full throttle take offs from a dead stop and wedges/full tuck in seem to be OK ... She jumps out of the hole just fine.
I'll try messin' with it some other day ... I prefer slower take off ... Easier on boat/motor .

When looking at boat from rear ... My trim tab is all the way to the left, which has not been changed from last years "Super secret" prop testing on "Lake XX" ...LOL
Talking with the guys before we launched, every ones else's is to the right ?
Miss. river isn't a great place to just jump out and make changes ... Most places are clay/slimy muck/takes half an hour to get off your feet ... YUCKY stuff ...

I need more seat time ... Above 50 mph boat needs your FULL ATTENTION !

I don't know, maybe not, But they do make hot foots. I found out with my FireFlite, when it starts bouncing around, I'm not fast enough to have my hands everywhere at the same time. Of course for a "pleasure boat" cruise control is nice. It looks really good Gregg, I'm happy for you.

Gregg, I believe that the trim tab adjusted to the left as viewed from behind is correct. That is the way mine is also. Must be the props we are running as both the Laser II and the Raker have high rake. In fact, I am thinking of mating a larger fin on my existing trim tab base.

I started yesterday's trip with the trim tab to the right, but quickly found out it should be to the left, and switched to the left at the launching dock at St. Paul Park, along with changing props. Think my tachometer reads incorrectly at times, as it was reading 6,000 RPM yesterday at times.

Your boat is at a great angle going full speed with much of the boat out of the water. Congratulations on all the things that have gone right for you.

Dave ...
Ya thing's went surprisingly well for first time out !
Only small problems that will be easy to fix ...

Jerry ...
Because of hull/floor design, a hot foot would almost have to be mounted in center of boat. Better then half of foot room is the hull ...
Would have to use left foot to operate it ... NOT a option in my book !
Believe me Jerry ... I'm paying attention at any thing over 50 mph !

Gregg, here are the two trim tabs I hope to weld together to eliminate the steering torque from the prop. (first and second picture)

OMC does not seem to make a extra large area of fin like Mercury Quicksilver (third picture)
