Well, the transom plate modification is taking place as I post this. I delivered the two plates to the welding shop this morning. And boy, did I get a weird look from the owner when I told him what I was up to. Of course everyone looks at me weird when I tell them I am restoring a boat from the 70s at least here.

Edit: I did find evidence of an add on kit for model years 79-82  but really no details on it and most parts are NLA.

Sorry I'm late to this... I'm pretty sure I have the ram set upbracket for one of these. I tracked it down to try to add to mine, but I won't be able to use it. My exhaust is in the way... i guess that's what I get for using aluminum jet boat manifolds on an I/O. If your modified plate doesn't work I'd sell it for what I bought it for which was somewhere around $80. I'll post some pictures up later in case anyone else is interested too.

Post the pick, I would be interested in seeing it. I would be interested if my modified plate will not work.

Since my local welding shop decided my little project was not worth their time after a month and a half, Mike was kind enough to take a shot at it. I haven't seen it in person yet, but by the picture I got he does pretty good work!

Looks good, sorry I haven't gotten to that picture of the add on kit yet...I won't have much spare time till late March at this rate. I will be over there in Hastings again mid March again though. Hopefully with my truck, but I may have to try and barrow my dad's if I can't get mine going by then.

No problem Kert, getting the Pulling machine back up and running is a little more important.

No kidding... I still have quite a bit of inventory to make still too. Gone most of next week for ConExpo so I don't have a lot of free time right now.

Modified transom plate is now installed. I must say, it looks like it is an OEM plate.

Now to get the trim pump relocated so the engine bay is a little less cluttered and get the shift plate mounting figured out. Its supposed to be cooler temps this week here so hopefully I will get the 140 installed towards the weekend.

Looks awesome!

Thanks Rich! It got a little windy so I did not get the bolts torqued. I hope to get that done tomorrow. I do have a something to delay the work on Phoenix. The Yukon decided to blow an exhaust donught and I have been having issues with the catalyic converters over the winter so I will be installing a complete exhaust system hopefully Wednesday evening.

Sell those old cats on eBay. Worth about $100 a piece for platinum scrap.

Thanks Jason, if O'Reillys doesn't need them for a core I will do that.

I have a question, how do I bleed the power steering system after I have it all hooked up?

Easy. Just fill the reservoir and turn the wheel lock to lock a few times. Then run the engine and do the same thing, add fluid as needed to top off the fluid.

Thanks Rich!

Just a quick update, sorry no pics it was trying to rain when I was finishing up. I got the shift plate mounted and I have figured out where the trim pump will be mounted. I am planning on trying to get the engine installed tomorrow evening. I am also removing the trim sender from the trim system since I do not have a trim gauge installed.

Wouldnt it be better to add a trim gauge?   My Z has the pucs, I assume for limits only, but no trim gauge in mine.   Was thinking about adding one actually.   Do they make a bar graph one I could add to my dash, not certain if there is room for another gauge in the Z console.

I used to have one but I removed it when I put in my depth sounder gauge. You learn to get a feel for it with out a trim gauge to go by.

The experimental upgrade is almost done. Shift plate is mounted along with the power steering cooler. (That was fun finding a location to mount it) trim pump is in its new location just needs to be secured. I also need to torque the transom plate again. I hope to install the engine Tuesday.
