cgoamn Trivia question
« on: December 15, 2013, 05:59:39 PM »
Would this event mark the end of an era?  The question is what year was this?

That explains that really cool looking Starcraft model that came out around the early to mid 80's - don't have time to look up a picture right now, but I remember there was a red model and a blue model...somewhat narrow body with outriggers on each side towards the back which made it into kind of a modified tunnel hull if memory serves (seems to me I had heard or read that Art was involved with that one).

I was in tech school at the time and using my GT150 a lot - but there was a Starcraft dealer near the school where I found the literature (probably still have it somewhere) and I thought that looked like such a cool boat!!   :)

Never saw one in person though...I wonder if they handled and preformed as well as they looked. In a real quick search, I did find this:

http://www.screamandfly.com/showthread.php?104878-1985-20-5-foot-Starcraft-tunnel

Oh my gosh - look who that post was from...

Dang it - now I can't stop - didn't have time to start searching on this...   LOL   Anyway, found this too for a little more information (I guess they looked cooler than they actually preformed - too bad, seemed like a nice idea): http://www.screamandfly.com/archive/index.php/t-5159.html

There's the literature picture I remember (lone behold in my second favorite Switzer stuff too yet)!!  http://www.freewebs.com/switzercraftreunionregattas/apps/photos/photo?photoid=106406012  :)

I passed on one (cheap) on eBay about two years ago and have regretted it. Not for a speed machine, just as a show/pleasure piece. Shoulda stuck it in the back yard and forgot about it till later. Live and learn. I think I even low balled him real bad too... shoulda just paid the man and grabbed it... oh well. Probably don't need yet another project waiting on me.

I did find kind of an interesting "promo" video out on YouTube - although real low quality video at best - but kind of reminded me of some of the Glastron James Bond videos: http://youtu.be/cKYSlNwh5eI

There's a dude restoring a HPV 164 over on Iboats. I've tried to coax him over here, but no luck yet.

Not so fast. While Paul Weston did perform stunts in the movie. Jerry Comeaux is said to've done the jump. According to Guiness World Book, etc.

However there are some that say a kid by the name of John Koerner from Tulane U drove the boat. Go figure.

edit. Koerner was one of the geeks who designed the launch ramp so's I reckon it's possible?

Yeah, I wondered too.

IMDB.com does not list Vic Armstrong as a stunt driver, only a Stunt Double.  Jerry Comeaux is listed as a Stunt Coordinator and Stunt Boat Driver.  Other Stunt Boat Drivers are credited as:  John Koerner, Murray Cleveland and Eddie Smith?

I'd put stock into the Guiness Record Book listing as well?
