GT-150 bilge
« on: January 11, 2014, 07:52:44 PM »
I'm trying to do as much as possible in my bilge area before putting the top back on. Its been years since I pulled it apart and can't remember the layout. The portable tank goes in the middle. Were trim pump and battery both on driver side?  Pics would help. Thanks.

Tim wouldn't you want the weight on the passenger side to counter balance your weight?

That's what I would prefer but the battery cables come through drivers side. I can't remember where trim pump was.

In mine, the battery is on the port side, trim pump is on the starboard side.
That's how it came to me after a P.O. rebuild, so I can't tell you if that's original.

I put a new wire harness on & my wires were short - I put a distribution block on and purchased some Ancor marine wire @ 4 ga. to extend for the battery.

Pretty sure the original configuration had the battery on the starboard side, not sure about the trim pump.  Like Dan (and many others) I moved mine to the port side for better weight distribution.

I believe someone posted before (Steve A?) what the reasoning was for putting the battery (weight) on the Starboard side and it had to do with torque steer or thrust from the motor. It helps offset it. Something like that. There is a legit reason for it being that way, however, that said, if you have a portable tank, I'm guessing that 6 gallons of fuel is heavier then a battery, so its offset anyway.

I mounted my battery on the port side and I used a mercruiser trim pump and made my own brackets to get it to fit in the center under the splaswell.
I will post pix later (I apparently don't have Tapatalk set up right on my phone)

Thanks for the input all.  I've decided I'll build a tray on each side and I can decide which side for the battery later after a test run.  I think the fuel tank can only go in the middle.  I'm still hoping for input on the trim pump.  Pics appreciated.

I left the the bilge open about 12" and bolted the pump to the gussets I added to the transom, the pump takes up all the space from the hull to the splash well.

I think if everything is positioned right you should be able to get 2 gas cans under your splash well.

Just a thinking you might want 2 at some time.

Jeff's right.  I have 2 six gallon tanks side-by-side under the splash well …

Yes I did. Since we decided to put a 14 gallon tank in the bow I didn't have to worry about fuel in the back. I built battery trays on both sides. I have an emergency boost battery I like to take. The bilge pump is mounted in the removable mount. I also glassed a board to the floor to align with the top to snap a cover onto.

Ah, okay it looks great!  Sorry if you posted this somewhere else, I just noticed there wasn't a final report on this thread.  Looks like a good design, let us know how it works out okay?
