alpha 1 gen 1 trim cylinders
« on: December 14, 2014, 07:42:51 PM »
I have been doing some research on trim cylinders and have noticed two different trim cylinder sets for the alpha gen 1.

Cylinders are as follows
Set 1
94703a3 and 94704a3

Set 2
14034a3 and 14035a3

Can anyone tell me what the difference between these are? The 140s seem to have the xd trim logos on them while the others are just black. BTW what is the xd trim supposed to do?

The XD trim rams came out with the Alpha drives of the mid 80's and are a more robust trim cylinder. A reverse lockout valve is not used with them. I think the 947xx set are pre-alpha which require the reverse lockout.

I did a little bit of poking around on the internet. The difference between those 2 part numbers is length of the cylinder housing. They both show as being used on the Alpha One. Which is confusing to me as I owned boats with '88 & '90 Alpha One drives and to my knowledge the hydraulic cylinders were all the same until the Alpha One Gen 2 showed up around '91. So I think either part number would work but why there are two different lengths is beyond me. I couldn't find a reason for that.

thanks for the info!

I found that the 94703 and 94704 tubes are 15 9/16" long while the 14034 and 14035 are 16-3/16"

Now my next question is what are the collapsed length and the total extended length of each of the cylinder sets mounted to a drive.
