WoW Gregg it looks like you had some work to do when you got her but you sure have done a great job, she looks fantastic, so sleek and smooth, what a fantastic boat! Is your engine a 2 stroke?

Yep ... 2 stroke ... 1989 Mariner 115 HP, inline 4cyl. with the 2+2 thing, only two cyls. running until about 2000 rpm's then the other 2 cyls. kick in.
Kind of weird, but seems to work OK, can't be changed because the top two carb's are different then the bottom two carbs ...

She really looks beautiful Gregg,

I've never heard of that combination on an engine but sort of makes sense and more efficient I would guess, otherwise you would be over fueling on the lower revs like my V6 does until she switches from the idle jets, she uses as much fuel on idle as she does at WOT. Very expensive I can tell you :-(

What size fuel tank do you have and how long does it last?

Ehh ... Gregg's boat's okay ...

Just kidding buddy! Heh heh heh. Thanks for the ride! Heck at least yours runs ...

I was lacing a new T-top for a customer on Lemon Bay today. Watching all the boats go merrily by. Considered tying a noose and hanging myself from the frame ...  But I got better ...

Doug, just be happy it isn't blowing snow and the wind isn't blowing 40 to 50 mph like it is here in Nebraska! I would rather sit and watch boats go by then sit and look at the crappy weather outside here.

This year they would have to bring you in by a dog sled.

Raining and 40 degrees hear right now, but that will change.

Ya I saw some really cool quadcopter/gopro video from this years blizzard. Purty gnarly. But hey I was there in '77. So you'd have to go a long way to impress me.

Sorry for the thread jack UKMike. It happens ...

Hey Doug,

No problem at all, it's all good reading  ;)

We thought we was going to get the snow a couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine was telling me how bad it was in buffalo, he works for a scientific company working on butanol fuel. I hear it was really bad this year.

I mowed my lawn yesterday.
I just got a new lawn guy yesterday matter of fact. Handyman Ed's his handle. But his name's Pete ...?

The previous lawn couple(?) did several lawns on the street. On a per cut basis. So we paid a bill at the end of the month for X amount of cuts.

They recently sent us a letter notifying that because so many other customers were stiffing them they were forced to implement a $75/month flat fee. Paid in advance.

This was met by a resounding "up yours" from me'n the neighbors. Cuz this time'a year it don't need cut but once every few weeks. And I know we all paid our bills. Pissed everybody off

Regardless. Looks like Handyman Ed, er, Pete, is our #1 choice for now. Did a lovely job on my place for $25 bucks, cash, yesterday.

2+2 ...
Believe it was a "Gimmicks" in the 90's for fuel economy ...
Cadillac had a 4/6/8 motors (NorthStar ?) that would cut out cyls. for better fuel economy ...
Not sure if that was what Mercury was doing it for ?

I have an 18 gal. tank in my bow, I get about 4 mpg.

Your CVX has a better hull design then the CV's have ... The pad makes a HUGE difference in speed and handling ...

That's a big tank Gregg,

Mine has a 60L tank which doesn't last all that long when opening her up but I recon I get about 6 mpg which I thought was really bad. It is what it is I guess. The hull is really smooth so that doesn't cause any issues, it's probably the weight of the engine that causes the drag. I was reading the other day and the old v6 engine is quite a heavy engine.

The 2.0L was / is 378 lbs.
The 2.3L was / is only 358 lbs.

60L equals 15.85 gals.

Do you know how fast you can go (GPS) ?

Thanks for that Gregg,

I hadn't realized documents like that were still around, but I'm pleased they are! I have a feeling that the tank is bigger than that but could be wrong, I will measure it when I get the chance. I know she does 62 MPH confirmed on GPS but in sure in the right conditions I could push a little more out of her. She's got such a wide trim range it's difficult to get her exactly right every time, I might have to fit a meter.
Do you know anything about replacing the lower grunions on these engines? If you look at my pics the lower trunion is rusted to heck. I have a brand new trunion and even a second had good original but looking at it they don't look easy to fit. I have all the spacers and replacement parts.

Sent you a PM ....

What rpm's are you turning at that speed ?
If your rpm's are in the low range of "Max rpm's" maybe try a 23P Laser II ...
But 62 mph is a pretty good number for your set up !

I had a trim gauge but never used it, preferred to go by seat of my pants ..
I watch rpm's and GPS, when it's trimmed to far rpm's go up and GPS go's down.
My speedo is pretty close to my GPS so most of the time I go off it.

I don't pull skiers or tubers, and do most of my boating on rivers with speeds in the 40 to 50+ mph range.
My CV is set up for going fast in a straight line and will blow out on turns.
The Laser II has the best feel / speed of all the props I tested.

Many thanks Gregg, that's awesome.

BTW I try to keep her straight at anything over 40mph as in open water it's risky anyway, don't want to nose dive her into a swirl and with that slight touch on the steering at speeds it does make quite a difference, I'm sure you can appreciate.. She rides pretty high at the front anyway because of the weight of the engine so it sort of makes it a bit safer and less likely to nose her in but it's always possible, and if I bank her port or starboard quickly one gets pretty close to the water, if I wanted a submarine I would have bought one he he he  :o

I've taken waves over the bow, two now in the last two seasons, both at idle/no wake speeds, both by not paying attention ....
Would hate to even think what would happen at 40 mph !

WAHOO !
