Uh oh....
« on: June 25, 2015, 08:44:54 PM »
So, this happened. A couple misc gaskets are on order and I will pick them up saturday morning.

Tomorrow is dedicated to wiring, and getting the tilt/trim functioning.

Engine is good (EDIT! SEE PAGE TWO... lol.. dang). Outdrive is good.

Looking like she'll get water tested next week or weekend.... maybe....

I need to find a truck, but looks like I'll be seeing you boys n girls soon :)

Well, the plan has been to get her rotated to a new home so I can get either a 1) GT-150 to 140 swap. or 2) A CVX-16SS

I'll get her out some this summer, but she's not really my style. I'll just get her buttoned up and ready for a new owner.

I am keeping a spare 140 and a couple outdrives. Plan for winter is to to build a 140 for as much as she can make naturally aspirated,,, probably for a CVX-16SS...

I'm hoping maybe she'll get me enough for a beater truck (to pull a boat) and a CVX-16SS with a blown motor (so it fits in budget lol)

We'll see... regardless, she'll be seeing water again very very soon ;)

The Intimidator came up again in discussion the other day. Man I miss that thing. some day I'll find another one in better shape and build version #2... lol

Us kids you know... we gotta have our hot rods.

While this 174 would suit me well enough, I'm still a sucker for them CVX lines

Hey, can someone give me a hand?

I need pics of the engine electrical for a old 70's/80's mercruiser 140.... mainly at the starter - where a bunch of the leads break out front the engine harness loom - red/black/purple/yellow/etc - right next to the starter.....

the harness on the engine going in has a large pin hole at the top, while the boat harness has a small pin there.... slightly different.... but I do have two other engine wiring harnesses as well..... so... uh.... trying to see what all is what.... would be nice to not have to swap the whole engine harness, but I could.

Photos would be great, and a schematic would help also.

I'm trying to get this wiring done today.... then it's just slappin the outdrive back on..... changing fluids.... bleeding Tilt/Trim, and then off to water testing. :)

Hey Shorty, I have a pick of the wiring for the starter and starting solenoid some where. I am at work, but it might be in my online storage. Let me take a look and see what I can come up with. Oh, also, I have a wire schematic at home also. I can scan that after 5:30 this evening if you still need it by then.

Hopefully I can help you here shortly.

Thank you ! And second, does anyone have a good legible schematic?

The only clear one Ive found so far is a different harness, and the one I found that looks right is too blurry to read.

From the looks of things I need a secondary solenoid ;)

Well.... got it wired up enough to start, just in time for rain to come in.... so have to wait to dig into it further.

The engine harness is different than the boat harness, so I left the engine harness as is and started swapping the boat side over under the dash.
I've got ignition, gauge lights, oil pressure gauge.... but... boat lights, volt meter, water temp, and tach still aren't working yet.
Also didn't get to throw the voltmeter on to see if it's charging.

Something rattles too.... maybe a bad mount. Not sure yet.....

Progress though. Hoping for good weather and a lot more progress tomorrow.

No fires yet. lol.

What is the purpose of the secondary solenoid? I'm not 100% clear on that... does it have to do with the alternator?

I just stabbed stuff up without it.... should probably get it wired in proper....

Brandon, thanks for the photo....
Greg, thanks for the link to the online manual link.... forgot about that.... I'll peruse it after I eat something....

It just dawned on me what the rattle was.... there's supposed to be little 3/4" or 1" spacers between the transom bracket and the rear engine mounts.... I forgot all about em and I'm just bolted up solid... so it's rattlin the snot out of everything lol.... no worries... I only ran her for a few seconds.... I'll find the spacers and pop em in tomorrow and all will be well lol.... silly.

I'm hoping to make the big meet this year.... :)

I can't find the spacers for the rear engine mounts.... anyone know how big they are supposed to be? 3/4"? 1"?

I'll grab something from the hardware store, but I'm sure the size is fairly critical for shaft alignment.

The engine flywheel housing mounts sit on spring-like lock washers, the spacers go on top of the mounts.
