My 16ss would top out at 4800 rpm with 21p alum prop and a 2.0 ratio outdrive. I think my merc label had WOT range or 4600 to 4900.  Too speed around 43 give or take.  After some initial issues to overcome, I found the 140 merc was ideal and reliable.  Perfect size for this craft and got great mileage, or is that wileage?

Thanks guys!

I seemed to vaguely remember 4800, so that seems about right..... Once I get this sorted I'll throw a bigger prop at her. But, 40 is cool with me and I think pretty solid for this boat with a 140!

I have my spare head and manifold in the car, once sierra is done packing her survival kit for the day we'll be on our way out to Princeton to have at it... leaving any minute.

One thing I noticed yesterday and forgot to mention - I had some pretty decent flow of air/exhaust out the pcv/breather of the valve cover... like, what seemed problematically so...... so the more I think about it, the more I think it may be a good chance it's a cracked head? (smelled like exhaust), or it's unrelated and maybe just bad valve stem seals? so I'm bringin the spare .... really really hoping today is the last of this issue. That puts me in a good spot on this project, with only a couple very minor wiring things to finish up (like adding a bilge pump)....

I think it's time people got to enjoy this boat finally :) 2nd generation CGOAMN (or third?)

Might be hard to see but check for cracks in the head from combustion chamber to water jacket. The guy rebuilding my 140 told me he's seen a few crack....Not sure about mine yet. I would also check the flatness of the head in case it warped at some point.

Those are decent numbers though!!

Ditto on the cracks in the combustion chamber. the 140 i rebuilt had that issue too. BTW I have a good head from the 120 if somebody needs one.

just out of curiosity, the 120 head is different than the 140 right?

Nope same cylinder head. When I tore down my 120 the only difference is the stroke of the crankshaft. bore size was the same as my 140 when I tore it down at 4 inches. I really kick my self now that I know this because I had to purchase a used head off ebay at a cost of $300.

For some reason I was thinking the intake/exhaust ports were different. Guess not.

Ok, 4th time trying to post this... it didn't want to last night

Opened her up. Inside the side cover, there was milk at the very front end only, coming from the front oil journal where it drops back in....
After removing the head, looked like I could see where water had been passing the gasket at the nearest water jacket port....

Got her cleaned up, buttoned up... ran her for a couple hours.... sorta had at it and laid into her..... she performed great. Even got some boarding in!

Taking her out again tomorrow. Gonna beat her a bit to be sure she's good.

Now, the next project, Drive and exhaust bellows.... they are both leaking.

I have a good set, and a new gimble and u-joints - but, I'm gonna grease her up good, run her tomorrow, and gonna tear into that next week

Wow Shorty, No wonder your getting this stuff done so quick. Looks like you got a shop crew!

Sounds like you are getting close to having a boat ready for Red Wing. Will be nice to see her on the water again. It's been a LONG time.

I'm certainly hoping to have it there man. I would love to see you guys and it would also be great to have this thing back out with the boys

Hopefully she fully proves herself tomorrow. If she does she should be River worthy

I'm glad Sierra offered to help because I was beat by the time I was at that point lol

YEEEEEHAW!!! Burned around all day, and the motor is good to go! NO WATER AT ALL... was a good day. got lots of cruising, floating, and wakeboarding in.

Ian came out with his CV16SS... and another buddy came out with his, Glastron circa 99 whatever it is.... it's a glastron, so fair enough lol

Next on the list - tomorrow, order bellows - set I had that I thought would be good is not good - so, orderin new ones and doing em this week, or early next sunday (along with the gimble bearing and U-Joints for good measure). Then she is ready for the meet!

Totally stoked, and I'm blown away with how well she performs.. seriously, she jumps straight up on plane, and runs out faster than I expected. Outruns both my buddies :) not that I care... I seriously don't, I'm just really surprised.

Anyway, I'm excited to get to the meet.... I think we have solid arrangements to get me and the boat out there.

I think I'll get there Friday, spend the night, and leave Saturday evening... I'm hoping there is still room... I'll have to get a hold of the powers that be and make arrangements

Also, Ian said he's got a slip.... and he thinks we can both get in it... think so? CV16SS and a V174SS ? and is that allowed?

Thanks guys! I'm stoked to run with you guys again!

Shorty, I've got a slip reserved but it doesn't look like the CVX will be finished in time . I'll hold on to the slip and you can have it if needed.

Awesome! I have a lot of fun with mine too, I think it's a great handling boat. Little to no bow-rise when you hammer the throttle.

^yeah, it's crazy. I didn't expect it to perform so well

Especially with the 140. I presume you have the 6 cylinder right?
And what speed are you getting?

Mine has the infamous Mercruiser "470" 3.7 liter 4 cylinder engine with 4 barrel carburetor transplanted in it, tops out around 50 mph.

Ah... well, that's a ballsy 4 cylinder ;)

You know, ever since my first 140, I've always loved em.
I also miss my Intimidator, and that 350, but I certainly don't miss the gas bill ... lol

I think it's just an anomaly. Lol

Once we spend some time and tune your carbs, change your plugs, plug wires, sort your electrical contacts, and time it - you should be performing much much better. And after that, try a couple different props on it. (For condition, and different specs)

EMS's boat has been doin great. That thing is sexy.

Hey, anyone know if his boat can be converted to power trim? With the volvo rig? I'm tryin to talk him into it. I'm not familiar with the volvos.

I need power trim, but this boat just might have to get stored and pulled out on occasion. Breaking the first rule, I will find a CV23 or a css19, Need to sell some records and all will be well. (or win the lottery)
