Hatch screws
« on: February 07, 2011, 08:34:35 PM »
OK guys I have been thing about reproducing these hatch screws for at least the CVX-18. (not sure what else they will fit.) I have made up a blue print of the screw from my CVX-18. I am wondering how many people might be interested in purchasing a pair, if I were to produce them? They would not be an exact replica however I would make sure to make vary similar. They will be stainless machined finished (not polished) I would only sell in pairs that way you have no problems with matching. I work at a machine shop, I am going to have my boss give me a quote on a batch of 10. As soon as I get that quote from him I will post the selling price and ask again who all will be interested. If I have enough I will go through with it and post a add on here showing a picture. Right now if you could reply if you are at all interested that would help. Thanks again

Shrom you know I'm interested I will take at least one set and that thought of a backup set is not a bad idea.  Just count me in for 4 what the heck.

OK guys, thank you for the interest. I gave my boss the print and he is going to give me a quote when he gets the chance here soon. The material it will be made of is 316 stainless. Which is the good stuff. A little more expensive then your typlical 303 stainless, but worth it. No worries about it being in the weather. Believe it or not the 303 series stainless does rust over time. Anyhow Hopefully by the end of this week I will have a price for what I set will be. Once I have that price listed, I will have you guys that are interested give me a call and put in your order.

If these will fit a CVX-16 Hatch I'm interested in a couple sets.  When you get a chance, post a picture and I can check if it will work.  Thanks!

Yep, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I need.  Put me down for 2 sets if you do end up getting these made.  Thanks!

The CVX16, 18 and 20 used the same screw and recptacle to secure the engine covers. Glastron Carlson part # 121140512. Description reads "Screw Assembly". From my 1980 GC small parts catalog the receptacle appears to be a purchased Southco part and I'm speculating the retainer, which is what Shrom is having made, was a unique GC part.

I researched this, and it was actually a Southco product (the screw) as well. the problem was that the distributors don't have a listing for them in the correct dimensions, only shorter ones. I went back and forth with the distributor trying to find out if they were available from the factory, or if a batch could be made (for all of us). I was eventually told to pick something from what was available, and then no replies or response at all, so I gave up. I think this should be a good alternative, as I've mentioned in another thread, Shrom is a good guy and won't jerk anyone around, and will make sure the quality is good. he knows how much we all love these boats and how detail oriented some of us are, as he is too. I know I'll be getting a set for the Intimidator while they're available.

Hey I want to thank you for being patient. My boss today told me that he hasn't forgot about getting me a quote. He has just simply been busy.
I might need some help from you guys that still have the originals in hand...I made the mistake of selling mine before I could produce them. So what I have to go by is a print that I had made up before I sold them. So if anyone would trust me enough to send one to me. ( i'll pay shipping cost) that would greatly help me on having them made to the same specs.(we can workout the details if someone is willing) One thing I must say is the new ones that I will have made, will not have the *Censored * on the top like the originals. Having that put on will make the cost a bit more. and probably not worth it.  If you would really want that *Censored * in it then I can do that on my own time for a special order. For a price.

OK guys the price is in....Kinda pricey But for a set it will be $50 and whatever shipping will be. I would be having him make me 20 sets (40 pcs) I would be paying him the money to have them made, and you guys would be buying them directly from me. Of course If I were having him make more the price would be cheaper however, there was not that much interest to do more. In fact with the interest I got, I will still have aprox 10 sets that I will be trying to sell after would possibly sell to you guys.

So with the price in, Those of you that are still interested please if you could reply to me again that would be great. If enough of you guys or girls are still interested then I will have them made.  If you want to contact me personally send me a PM and I will give you my cell number and we can talk.

I'm still in for a set. About what I figured they would cost to machine out of 316SS in a small batch size.

I'm sorry guys $40 a set not $50 I miss calculated. Cheaper then I thought. Unfortunately our shop is not the cheapest however we focus on quality of our work. Every part in are shop goes through a inspection before  it goes out the door .
