Adam From Arkansas
« on: April 04, 2016, 02:39:19 PM »
I stumbled across this board researching for Glastron parts.  After skimming through the content, you guys seem to have plenty of knowledge and experience. So here I am, looking for advice and tips.

My Dad and I are rebuilding a CV-16 (not sure of the exact year but we believe it's a '76). We are reinforcing the transom with a stainless steel plate. And using aluminum brackets to strengthen the keel. Disclaimer: we are not professionals and we are on a budget, so we are working with what we have ;).

We are also needing a new fuel tank (plastic if possible), anybody have a good resource?  I searched through the "Vendor and Repair Resources" category but couldn't find anything on fuel tanks.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Adam

Welcome Adam! Its great to hear of another being saved. I am sure one of the many CV-16 owners will chime in.

Welcome to the forum Adam !

Looks like a 1976 CV, check the serial number on right side of stern, should end with the number 76 and maybe a letter after it.
Color is blue flake with light blue gel, but you can't always go by colors for model years ...

I can post some pictures of my fuel tank, but would look for something lower profile then original, also when mounting tank I have been told that G/C mounted it off center to counter weight of battery on the driver side in stern.

Do you have a motor ?
With new transom wood, plate might be over kill, unless your going with a huge motor and jack plate.

Thanks for the info on the fuel tank and you were right, it's a '76.

It is overkill b/c we are only running a 115 Evinrude. But my dad likes to over do sometimes, just who he is ::).

I will post some pictures of the motor this afternoon.

Have you thought about motor set up ?
CV's like the motor all the way up, and you'll run into cable routing issues unless you cut hole in splash well.

Jim

The best way to get a good deal is to find the tank you want, then google that part number to compare prices.

I replaced mine about 8 years ago from Tempo which was bought by Moeller sometime after that. I got a 16 gallon and it was an exact match to the old steel tank. Check your measurements but I bet this 17 gallon will fit in there very nicely!
