Title: Labor Day
Post by: 76bayflite on September 01, 2011, 08:18:26 PM
Sounds like most of you have plans, however Amy and I decided we're going out on the river on monday.  Since ft. snelling seems to be one of our favorite spots I figured someone might want to join us.  We're either going up the minnesota to valley fair or going up through the locks.  I know of a few areas where there are beaches we'll see weather or not they're submerged.  Let me know if anyone else is interested.

Sorry Sean, we'll be on the water, (I'm picking up my new solinoid tomorrow) but will be doing Square Lake county park for a little tubing, water skiing and playing on the beach with the boys.

Have a great time on the river though! If it was just the wife and I, I'd change our plans and join you!

Ft. Snelling, Monday sounds good.
Let ya know for sure tomorrow.
How about the Newport, Lion Levee launch ?
I have less then a half tank left from Red Wing and thought I could burn it up and refill at the marina by the Miss. MN. river intersection.
Just a idea ...

I'll check to see if one or two of my boys can come Monday. Gregg, with the distance from Ft. Snelling to Valley Fair, it may make more sense to launch at Ft. Snelling

Fort Snelling State Park is located on Post Road off State Highway 5, just west of the main terminal exit for the International Airport.

Talk to the nice ladys at the office when ya buy your day pass.

Pretty open to the time, it'll be about an hour drive for me so does 9:30 - 10 arrival time work for everyone?  Sean, (shawn?) as for your grill the park has a few grills and picnic tables in between the parking lot and boat ramp.

Hope everyone up there has a great holiday weekend.  Most of all, BE CAREFUL of the roads and waterways!  It's just too crowded and crazy down here on the water this weekend, too many amateurs and drunks making their last hoorah for the summer.  I'm headed for the garage to finish (hopefully!) up some glass work on the GT.  ENJOY!

That's what is nice about the Minnesota River. The boaters there seem to be the more conservative group and there are never many boaters on the river. But I have met a group of Allisons and Hydrostreams tearing up the water.

I will be at Ft. Snelling between 9:30 and 10 AM Monday morning with a least one son.

Grilling after the run will be very informal, I'll bring; charcoal, paper plates, ketchup, mustard, relish, chips.  Lots of sunshine and very little wind expected, See you tomorrow.

Great get together - Jeff, Gregg, Sean and Amy, David and son Paul, Dave and family, Shawn and daughter - six boats altogether. Went from Fort Snelling State Park to Valley Fair and back, a total of 43 miles. Stopped at a sand bar past Valley Fair to rest and gab, and returned to fort Snelling to grill and picnic.

We did have mechanical troubles, but nothing we did not overcome. Without associating the problems with names, someone left their key on from Red Wing and their battary was dead, someone had a reoccurance of the same fuel starvation problem they had been having for the two prior years, someones motor stopped and they had to be towed back, someone did not bring enough gas and while going full speed past the launching ramp on the way back, the engine cut out and they floated to the ramp, someones transom plug broke, someone elses battary was dead and they had to be jump started.

We reminded a DNR boat launching that their transom plug was not in after their boat was in the water halfway off the trailer, and got rewarded by them asking equipment questions to the entire group - throw life preservers, horn, fire exstingquiser, etc.

My max speed was 49.9 MPH at 5,300 RPM.

Great to have new faces join us.

Dang, they say "no good deed goes unpunished"!  Seriously, I KNOW we (you, me, and the whole gang here) aren't "wired like that", but it kinda makes you wish you'd have just let 'em launch it without it.  I feel bad just saying it, sorry.   :-X  Really glad you guys had a good time, been raining and storming here all day.

Like Dave said ... We had a problem or two ... HECK ... We had a CRAP LOAD !
But all said we had a GREAT time.
Guess the DNR guys were just doin' there job ... But ya  ...

I left a little early to get home for a BarBque with the family, so walked down to the river to wash some of the sand off my feet/sandels.
Was done when a guy and his dog backed into the water and got out of his truck, he only had one arm so I asked if he need some help, he said "Sure" so help him launch and held his boat while he parked his truck.
Kinda felt good about that ...
Think it put a smile on his face too ...

Nice to meet some new friends and hope ya can make it out again.
Dave ...
Every shot I took of your CVX didn't come out, missed your fly by, got mostly of my windshield on two others and was talking with Dave in the parking lot and took two shots of Sean's boat and none of your ...

Looks like you all had a blast!

I had a bit of trouble myself (darn trim issue still even with a new solinoid) but we were on Square lake after the weather improved so at least didn't have current to worry about. Not a lot of room to go full out since the lake isn't that big, but we did it for a minute to get squeals of excitement from the kids! We had 4 adults and 6 kids (5yrs down to 3yrs) , laid the seats back so we could all sit down and still managed 30mph according to my fairly inaccurate speedometer.

Broken plug? Save it for a trophy?

After seeing the Labor Day pictures of Jeff's boat and riding in his boat at the Red Wing event when we outran the Donzi 21'  454 bigblock, I feel Jeff R has earned the title "Jetset Jeff."

Honestly, I dont know for sure I could/would have had the forethought, nothing mean intended.
