With Doran running the Red Wing Meet, I have volunteered to handle the setup for the Meet at Rathbun.
Last year we as a group decided to to have the meet the second weekend of June. So with this I am for keeping it the second weekend in June as the regular time frame of the Rathbun get together.
So the dates are as follows.
June 11th - 14th
Honey creek state park - South Campground
Itinerary will be posted at a later date and Camp site reservations will be open March 11th cabins be reserved as of today.

Thank you,

Thanks for taking this on, I was curious to know the details of the meet. Likely I will be looking at a camp spot near the one I had last year. Always a good time at Rathbun, lets hope for decent boating weather. We will try to make this meet on Thursday and leave Sunday morning as we have in the past, seems like Friday has been the decent weather. I would consider Lunch at the resort a highlight, and if we have beach area, then a beach cookout is fun also. I WILL bring a chainsaw this time, firewood was plentiful last year if you could cut it. Let me know if you need any help. You might want to post a link to this thread on the open discussion so others can be updated. Thanks, Michael.

Pretty sure you can't just fire up a chainsaw and cut up fallen trees, etc Mike. It is a Park/Nature area after all, pretty sure that will earn you an expensive memory from the weekend...

Thank you for the input Mike! I am thinking right now Friday will be group meal at the lodge for lunch, and then picnic on the beach saturday for lunch. The one we went to in 2012 by the dam (weather and water levels permitting of course).

Doran came up with this as a promo flyer for the meet.

Hey Brandon, Thanks for picking this up. Things have been hectic getting use to life with an infant. That, and Courtney's dad recently passed away giving us reason to be in Texas. Most of you know that I sold the boat when moving to KC ... our house in Centerville is still for sale, and we're crossing fingers on having it sold soon ... but having to rent, we didn't have storage for a boat, nor any idea how we'd get time away to go use it.
It might be worth my trip up from KC, even without a boat, to visit for the weekend.
-
We would luv to see ya, plenty of room in the z. Hoping for some beach and float time.
-

Just a FYI from our camp. Connie and I intend to leave early Thursday. We plan to arrive at Rathbun around lunchtime, set camp, have a bite, then be on the water. I will bring my laptop and projector, Tim(makinwaves) is bringing a PC audio system and "live and let die". We have a screen, but afraid to use it outdoors so would prefer a big white sheet and rope should anyone have such available. If anyone has any glastron related movies, clips, or such your welcome to bring them. Might throw a quick photo slide of the day if ithers wish to offer digi photos. Slight variation to the typical campfire night. Anyway just a thought, looking forward to seeing everyone, and let's pray for good weather.

I will definitely be there, not sure which boat I'll have, but I will be there.
Can't finish up the 'Big Girl' b/c the PO 'misplaced' the brass screws that hold the impeller cover on, so I haven't been able to run it yet...oh, and it doesn't have a floor yet.
Goldie can be pulled together in a pinch with Joe's tank and some hose rerouting, so that's plan B right now. I expect to be down Thursday night, but have to head to a meeting Friday afternoon, returning Friday night. Not 100% sure which part of the family will be around when...this weekend will be a bit haphazard for us.
-
Sounds like a plan guys! We hope to be there by 3pm. Amber has a doc appt in the morning. Hope to leave home around 11pm.
-
Hey all, I post this with a heavy heart, but, my grandmother passed away on Monday of this week and the funeral is Friday morning so we will be arriving late. Funeral is at 10am so we will hope to be at the campgrounds by mid afternoon Friday. See you all then.
Brandon and Amber

Of course you know amber and I are tomorrow afternoon. Travis and Crystal are on their way at the moment. Mike and Tim I cannot speak for.

I'll be stopping by with the family in tow, as we'll all be nearby anyway. Then coming Saturday afternoon to camp.
We're crazy busy this weekend, so having to make some sacrifices this year. I'm still trying ti get the cvz hooked up and running!

Brandon - Want to do some prop testing tomorrow & Saturday AM? These won't handle Tim's HP, but for our puny engines I've come to really like them.
I have the Gil Six Gun composite in pitch 17, 19 & 21, also the Piranha 3 Blade 'Hydrobite' prop with the flow 'fences' in pitch 21 & 23. I have the 4 Blade Piranha on Goldie in 20 & 22p.
So, that's 7 combinations you could test on Saturday if you wanted.
David, think you could get a polish on them? LOL (Probably!)

Just gotta be like a UPS driver and make only right turns.
-
Yep I would be happy to try a couple out Doran. See everyone late this afternoon!
-
We're headed to resort for lunch now :-)

I never have polished a composite prop before. Bet Mothers Aluminum and Alloy Polish would work.

Honestly, I wonder if that would do anything? Suppose sharpening the blades couldn't hurt...but they're not really a high performance propeller anyway.

Though it was cloudy, yesterday, it was a nice day on the water.
Little wet this morning...

Here's a couple of shots with phone

I did stop by with the family Friday, and was ready to head down after Noon.
The weather patterns this time of year are difficult when it comes to a scheduled event.
-
Sorry to hear that you guys and gals had a rainy weekend.
Looks like there was a little boating done.
-
On the way out we stopped by the Rathbun marina, saw this in the boat yard

The best laid plans of mice and men! After spending the morning in the shop Thursday watching the rain, we finally decided to finalize and head towards Rathbun around 1pm Thursday. Trip was dry, set up camp, 1st ones here appearantly. Had a nice burger dinner, but decided not to boat as radar had a storm heading our way. Tim/Christine arrived just as a light rain began. Barely got their tent set up and a strong storm came through, we headed for our trucks to ride it out. Joe and his son from lincoln stopped by to say hello, stating they were going back to cook some dinner. Friday morning came and went, had some breakfast and watched it rain. A break in the rain came and we headed to the ramp, ran to the bridge, looked over the beach area, picked up supplies at the marina, then headed over to the resort for lunch. Lunch was tasty and filling and had great company. After lunch we headed out on the lake, tied together, and floated for awhile. Cloudy and overcast all day, but fortunately no rain. Tim was in desperate shape for fuel, so we headed to the marina, arriving 10 minutes after closing. A sign on the fuel dock stated an extra $20 fee for after hours fuel. The attendant showed up, was impressed by two Carlson's at his dock, provided the fuel, told us he and his wife own the marina, and were willing to have our group at their accommodations. We then headed over to the beach by the camp, Joe was tied off with his GT, we beached, but never got out since everything appeared to be muddy. Played around a bit, then headed for the ramp. Friday night we met up with Brandon and Amber. Discussed weather, had a nice campfire, and visited for awhile. Saturday morning arrived with rounds of rain ending around 8am. Got up, had some breakfast and coffee. Looked like we might have a break in the rain once more, I was planning to break camp and head to the ramp, get in a few hours, then head out. Rain reappeared so we all broke camp and decided to head home. Spent the day at home hanging everything out to dry. Rathbun is a nice place, but maybe we need to consider moving the event to July or September? Sometime when the atmosphere is a bit more stable. We enjoyed the time spent even if the weather didn't want to cooperate. Looking forward to seeing everyone in August. Michael(Plugcheck)
-
Joe, I am almost positive that Glastron houseboat was the one on the beach with us the first year.
-
I agree, I think it is that same one. Very Sad to see
-
Yup I believe it was on the beech also.

Yep We all agreed that it is time for a break from Rathbun and step back and weigh our options on either a different date or relocation.
I know all of us have really enjoyed the Rathbun Lake area over the past 4 years, but bigger and better things are hopefully on their way as we weigh all of our options.
-
Yep, its time. If we were all closer and could go down there on a whim, that'd be one thing...but you guys travel a long way! I'm all about meeting you guys on the Missouri next year.
-
One thing I forgot to mention is one of our own (Travis and Crystal Crouch and family) had their vehicle break down on the way home yesterday. They are now waiting for a repair shop in Corning, IA to look at it on Monday and hopefully get back on the road tomorrow. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers that it is cheap fix and not something major.
