Got the new teak strips drilled and installed loosely until we can finish clearing the boat and I can oil up and attach permanently. They look so much better than grip tape.
I'm looking for ideas to attach the engine hatch and hinge to the boat instead of the back of the seat. My thought is an aluminum plate about 3" wide across that would add structure to the boat as well as attach the hinge for the hatch. The biggest plus would be that the hatch would be able to be aligned and look nice and the seat could be moved/removed without removing the hatch.

Maybe something like this .. so you could easily remove hood / engine hatch.

Those are really cool and I could remove it if I flip the hatch forward completely. I just gotta have to pivot at the top of the seat or I wont be able to open it at all. I wish it was the other way in case I needed to look at it when in the water.

Search up piano hinges online. Those are longer and can even be cut to custom sizes with hand tools.

I found an old post of mine with a link that showed doing this, which is what I am going to do.

Cleared the boat, added the name back. Got the hinges for the engine cover. Not going to work - too small. Oh well, will get different ones. Also painted the emblems.
New teak strips will go on after the oil dries.

Some more progress. Once the oil dries, the teak steps go on.

Demian, I think what your looking for is a way to hinge the cover from the back. Since the back isn't straight, you need remote pivot points that are under the deck, like these: Google Hot Rod Hood or Deck hinges.

Id love to, but the way the front of the cover is, Id have to chop it up. I have an idea and all the stuff to do it, just need the time now.
Thank you for the input man!

They are just aluminum, not blue, sorry.

Got the hinge mount done. Not the prettiest showpiece but functional and i was able to build a little more stability into that area of the boat.
Second picture, I picked up an 84 YZ490 to tinker with as well.

VERY NICE !

Got the teak steps oiled and installed. Next will be sea (lake/river) trials with it all back together!

If I can get it to work per the other thread!

I went ahead and used those tiny hinges on my rear seat bottoms to be able to flip them up from the rear to access items underneath, and it actually attaches them to the boat now, instead of putting a full cooler on the seats to keep the seat cushions and the contents under then, in the boat!
And if need be, I can slide the hinges over to remove the cushions!
