Hello Glastron CGOAMN, I just purchased a 1965 Jetflite without motor.  I am looking for information on the Mercury motors that came with this model.  I'm not sure if it is a 20" or 25" shaft back in the mid 60's.  I am looking to source a 40-50hp motor and hope to find out what model engine was offered with this boat when it was new.  Cheers,
Bill

Welcome to the forum 1965JetfliteV143 !

Check the deck colors and style for year built or post your data plate.
The picture posted on the ad was hard to see numbers ...

OR ...

During the 60's, Glastron HIN's had six digits, and the the third
number from the left was the year. If the hull number on the outside of the transom is missing
or not legible, try looking on the underside of the dash near the steering column...There
often was a hidden one there. "

You can find product brochures here ..
https://www.glastron.com/us/catalogs-and-product-information

Motor brand would have depended on what brand the dealer sold, and holes drilled for a Merc would have been different from a Johnson / Evinrude motor.
Your transom would be a 20 inch (Long shaft).

Thank you for the reply Hyperacme.  My Model on the Tag on the dash says 143 MB, Serial number 315607.  The person I purchased the boat from added a new 40hp with a 20 inch shaft.  He kept that motor.  The older Mercury engines I am looking to source I believe will have a 25 inch shaft.  Is that what you mean by Long Shaft?

The pictures from the brochure are great, and that is the color of my boat.  How do I know if mine is a Super Sport?  The max engine is a 65hp, I see a lot of Merc 50hp, no so many 65hp.  What would you recommend as a good option?

" My Model on the Tag on the dash says 143 MB"
Model is a .. V143
MB = Metal flake Blue

"Serial number 315607"
Must have been a late 1965 build with 1966 deck style and colors.

15 inch shaft is a "Short Shaft"  (SS)
20 inch shaft is a "Long Shaft"  (LS)
25 inch shaft is a "Extra Long Shaft"  (XLS)

I don't think Merc made 25 inch (XLS) motors until the late 1980's and then only in the 115 HP and larger range.
Just guessing on date of XLS motors from Merc, but any 50 / 65 / 70 / 80 / 85 HP Merc's would have been LS motors.

Not sure if you want to keep it period correct or user friendly ..

By the 1960's most boat mfg. were building boats with 20 inch (Long Shaft) transoms.

The 65 / 80 / 85 HP Merc's would be about 50 years old now and parts and someone willing to work on them is rare today.
Most just get a newer motor ...

I removed my 1971 65 HP Merc, without tilt & trim and replaced with a 1994 Johnson 60 HP with tilt & trim.
1972 V156 with 1971 Merc 65 HP = 36 MPH / GPS
1972 V156 with 1994 Johnson 60 HP = 42 MPH / GPS

Your V143 is about 160 lbs. lighter then my old V156, so could do about 45 to 50 MPH with a newer 70 HP Johnson / Evinrude  or Merc .
