aq270/130c tilt trim wiring
« on: August 05, 2022, 10:54:02 AM »
What a mess. I am running into troubles with this wiring. Some of the wires have 3 colors in the same string and not all the colors match the diagram I have. When I first bought this boat, the drive was held up by a strap. Just like the engine, I think someone has gotten into it and messed it up. I have not yet found a wire diagram that totally matches this one. Right now, I'm using a 74aq 130,270 Bayliner diagram, but it is in black and white with no colors or wire markings. I went through 7 pages of expanded drawings to find a lift that matches this one and only 4 of those looked right ( pn 897658) but can't find a color wire diagram. I have been trying to trace wires from the relays to match everything up. I have been reluctant to crack the sealing type clear material that they used to waterproof it with off the unit, I think I am going to have to do that soon though.especialy if I replace the relays. Right now, I have about 4 wires on the outside of the wiring cable that I'm not sure of where they go. I took a lot of pictures before I took the engine out but cannot seem to find the same wires in my pictures

and my reference materials, so it's just taking a while, but I'll get there. plan to put a battery on it soon and see what it does.

SWEET that should help. I had been using the 100 drives relays as a starting point and a handwritten diagram from a 270 from the web as another but it did not have colors and sizes. I have 3 leads on my lift motor, this shows 4? I will have to take a mirror and look under it to see if I missed something. I also have a smashed part that is on top- it looks like some kind of switch. When I look it up the only thing, I find like it is a discontinued part 830472 engine heating prot. any experience with that? here is a picture of it on the top of the lift with the red tape on it. I did also see that this addresses the 2 color and 3 color wires I have found. I have started to chip back the plastic type waterproof coating to get at the real colors and hopefully the numbers on the relays.

and also, what also makes this somewhat confusing is that I am using a 1987 Conroy dash-I do have a wiring diagram for that. I am running this through a sea fuse panel up front.

managed to peel back the plastic goop stuff and open the covers on the wires. Each wire has another cover over it that is mostly a different color than the wire under it. These covers also added bulk making it almost impossible to judge the wire size. some of the covers have relay connection numbers as well as on the back of the relay- so, I have been able to map the relay and the first one is exactly the colors and sizes it should be although the position of the connections 85-87-30/51 and 86 are in different positions than on the wire diagram. So that's a good start. I did look up the relay # and I hope there are knock offs-the Bosch one goes for $150.00. I have 2 different numbers on the two relays. This also tells me that no one has messed with the wires upstream as they connect in the tilt lift box. I did find some corrosion on one of the blades but so far, the remainder are very clean. I only busted out one tonight and I still have to trace them back completely.

I generally buy the bosch style relays in packages of five.    They are available online for about $5 each.     Comes with base and wires.

Nice! thank you I picked up some of those relays. I did uncase the other relay today and it all matches up also. I still need to uncase the other wires to see where they are on the diagram and if it is correct-it does appear so initially. I did figure out that the blue thing with the red tape in the picture above is only a fuse. I will search for what amp you would think 30 or 40 or less and put an inline fuse in for that one. That fuse is on the comm line- I'm not sure why the fuse is 3 inches long in blue plastic with a kind of spring blade on the end, but the plastic is pretty much destroyed. Any thoughts? I'm horrible at electric....my Dad took an Electric engineering class when he retired and a few other schoolings but I'm not at that level.
