Minn. boat titles
« on: December 21, 2021, 06:26:26 AM »
Finally after almost a year and a half I?ve finally got my title and registration for the timi?.. if the next project you find is a 1980 or newer it WILL have a MN title!  And registration.  Registration is not the hard part, but the title you have to see a judge so the state can locate the original owner and make sure it?s all free and clear of any loans or whatever and then reapply for a new one..  it?s not very expensive but will take a lot of time and trips to the DNR and DMV.  And fortunately I could read the old DNR numbers on the boat.  That helped a lot.  So the next project you find make sure it has all the paperwork?   1979 and older is not as bad because the DNR can just go back and see how long it?s been since the last time it was registered, call it a abandoned boat and re register it.   Good luck and get that paper work!

I learned the hard way a long time ago, no title is a deal breaker regardless of price.   I've done mechanics Liens to bonded titles and all come with plenty of hassle.   Different states have different rules, for instance, Nebraska used to not care about trailer titles, but now are required.  I laugh Everytime I see an item for sale, the seller may say "no title", but that it is easy to get?    If it's easy, why don't you go get it and ask a bit more money?  Like a car with the money light just needs a $5.00 part to fix it?    Sorry for the rant, just been burnt too many times with title/registration issues.

Only buy un-titled boats built before 1979 and 16 feet or smaller ..  ???
I knew about the 16 feet or smaller, but didn't think they (longer then 16 feet) had to be titled ..

You can use a titling service like its-titles to get a title.  It'll cost you $350'ish.

That's its-titles.  I almost had to use them on the CVZ-18...but the DNR in North Carolina did me a solid.
