Went ahead and had the motor machined and rebuilt. New pistons, rings, bearings, cam, gear, oil pump. Including gaskets, parts and labor, about $950. Had to go 40 over on the pistons because of the scoring.

Ill be doing the OG Aluminum valve cover in a wrinkle finish black.

Anyone have the aluminum finned mercruiser lifter cover they would want to donate to the cause? IIm doing my best to NOT make B.O.A.T. a reality ($950).

I have one that came with the motor in the boat.

And its back in and looking good. Thanks to my son for always helping me out.

Now to break it in this weekend on the hose, before installing the outdrive.

Looks great!  Break in and winterize the same day or consider storage for spring?     I did a little lookiing around eBay, there were a few aluminum valve covers for sale fairly reasonable.  One still had all the stickers

Ill break it in this weekend and maybe take it to a local lake in a couple of weeks for a shake down. We live in Southern California so its not bad as far as temps.
Im still gonna clear the back of the hull and put on the new teak step strips.

The one on mine is aluminum, could use a new breather though. But its covered up anyways!
