Roller trailer ?
« on: October 01, 2019, 02:02:39 PM »
Im about to bring the boat home and start some work. Someone mentioned get the boat off the rollers. Should I cut some strips of plywood and put that between the rollers and hull? Or what have some of you done?

Are you going to separate the deck from the hull ?
Replacing floor ?  Or floor and stringers ?

Edit ..
Some have built cradles .. Bottom of picture

For those of us doing a total refurb, building a cradle for the boat works best. Others have reinforced their trailer with additional support  for the bottom of the hull. I chose a cradle  because my trailer is too long to fit in my garage. Included wheels to make the boat more maneuverable while working on it and assembled it with lag screws for easy tear down and compact storage. What you do depends on the amount of work that needs to be done and your personal preference.

Here's a couple of pics of the cradle. Not the most detailed but gives you an idea of what i have done.

Hope this is helpful.

My boat'n buddy Ethan installing pads to protect the hull.

Here you can get an idea how the hull is supported.

Im not doing anything but pulling the motor at this point and figuring out whats going on with it. Im not planning on doing any hull work. It was recommended by someone that these trailers ruin the hull. I have no clue if thats true or not.

Appreciate the advice. I plan on keeping this boat a long time, so would like to take the right steps in keeping this thing as nice as possible.

OK ..
My CV sat on a roller trailer for 40 years and you can see and feel the divits where the roller contacted hull.
Bunks offer better support for bottom.
