GT150 Trailer Questions - Need Help With Drive On Type
« on: October 02, 2019, 12:21:29 PM »
My recent and first GT150 purchase came with an old-style "sit on" trailer. This does not have any drive-on potential and most concerning is that it carries the boat very high. The keel is easily 24" above the ground. This will make loading and unloading in any kind of wind a real pain, but also means that on some shallow-angle ramps it will be near impossible to get the boat to float off the trailer without submerging my truck!

I have measured several different trailers and what I find is that most of the 15 ~ 17 foot boat trailers are not wide enough. The GT150 is much wider than most other 15 footers (75" beam is not typical). Most of them are in the low/mid 62" ~ 68" max. The GT150 won't fit between the fenders of those I've found locally.

I've gone through hundreds of images on Google looking for different trailers, but find that 95% of them look to be on one of these "old-style" sit-on trailers. Am I making this stuff up, or is there a better alternative?

Thanks, Gordon

Is that Mark Smith's old GT150 ?

I have a Karavan bunk trailer.
Works well and carries boat fairly low. Should be enough adjustment to fit a 15 foot boat.
It's a 2011 so model number might not be still in use.

I would take measurements and move the bunks out to allow the boat to sit lower.  A quick look at the fender to hull clearance indicates it is too high.

On this Red/White boat, the keel is on the trailer rollers and there is no dropping the load height.

Gregg, thanks for the info. Their website shows that all Sam's Clubs are retail partners. I will call my local Sams to get availability and pricing. These look great.
