My 4th Carlson, 1981 CVX18 with 260hp 5.7 liter. Boat was gold metal flake, sadly painted over white by the previous owner I rebuilt the interior and trailer. Turned out well and is in very nice shape after a little love. Simple but awesome audio system, JL Audio BT controller, and all SoundStream speakers, amplifier and 12” ported subwoofer built into the factory center console. Hate to see this one go, but time to move on to the next.
FOR SALE $7000 CAN, only $5200 US. Located in Lloydminster, Alberta Canada. Message me for any further detail. Enjoy.

Owner only owned 1 year; not a lot of history, owner claims to be second owner of local BC boat. Seems like straight up guy but not technical. Just at time of inquiry owner shared he found significant oil in bilge that returned after clean up without engine run. Welcomes sending a mechanic to look. Original boat that appears real clean in additional pictures send after inquiry

Appreciate opinions; looking at CVX18 Tuesday; sending technical friend to CVX16 ASAP

Wanted bigger boat than 16 feet but....

Pricing is Canadian

I'd pass on the 18 because it has been repainted and no flake. To each their own.

The 16 is in awesome shaped, but too cramped for my tastes. Another big negative for me is you can't get in it unless it is sitting next to a dock. The buckets do not swivel either like they do in the 18. Which is a really nice feature, especially if you plan to do any watersports.

Find an 18 in the same shape as the 16 is my advice.

Thank you! Great points on 16 I didn’t know. Buckets seat comment valuable

“Unless sitting at dock” ? Can I expand? Is it not easy to get in from the water/ at ladder? Sorry, never actually seen a 16 in person.

I owned a CVX16 OB and the passenger seat not swiveling was a major bummer when doing watersports. I like that both the buckets in an 18 swivel.

The 18 has a boarding ladder so if you need to get back in the boat while out in the middle of the lake, it easily done.  You would have a tough time getting back in the 16. Even if your just beached on the shore and leaving the 18 is easy to get into from the stern when pushing the boat out to deeper water. The cushions on each side of the engine cover are easy on the knees vs the hard fiberglass found on the 16.

Thanks for the intel; 16 had a ladder but the back doesn’t look fun to access

I didn't notice that as most of them don't and my CVX16 OB didn't have one. Boats and other things w/engines always have emotion tied up in the purchase decision w/me(that's what makes them fun to own) so in the end buy what you want knowing the up and downs of each. For me a CVZ18 would actually be better choice as it's a superior water sports boat w/open bow. But the CVX18 is the one I want parked in my garage.;)  That is another model you could also look at.

There was a very nice CVZ19 in Lake Elmo that he was looking into.
But seller never got back to him and boat must have sold .. as it not listed anymore.

Kip .. your CVX16 still haunts me ..

I noticed the Glastron emblem on the engine cover is cracked and missing the same little piece of the "G" as mine. Funny thing is I found the little piece in the bowels of the boat when I repaired the back section of the floor. I think this is the only year the CVX18 doesn't have the word "Carlson" on it anywhere for some reason.

Is your interior original? I noticed it has the striping on the cushions port & starboard of the engine cover. Yours also has a different steering wheel, like what you'd see in an '86 or '87 so I suspect yours was built at a later date than mine.

This boat is going on a lift next summer at my place in WI BTW. Trying to decide if I should pick a used one up this fall or next spring on CL. It will be a covered one.

I noticed the “G” as well. My interior has been redone. Not a big fan of the step pads with stripes... if I was to have done them, they would have been all red making the top rear all
one color.
There are several changes made from original so I might just change the emblems to the GV version; they look better IMHO.
Got a real nice cover so I have options... also has thru hull exhaust and the drop in cooler under the rear seat  ;D

They did do a very nice job on seats.
Color is off a shade from original side pads.. but look great !
WHY .. Do people cut holes in dash for radios .. when there's a console to hide it ..

They did a fabulous job on your interior. I was going to put Glastron-Carlson emblems on the engine cover when I first got mine but I think I'll just buy a set of Glastron emblems w/o the rivets from Aaron.

Mine also has the rear seat cooler. Not a fan of how it it just drains into the bilge.....speaking of which I'd strongly suggest putting a good bilge pump with an automatic float switch in the boat if it hasn't been done already. Some of the best money you can spend on your CVX18 IMHO.

Holes for radio, acc./cig. lighter and ski bar.
No holes in plastic dash at least ...

The side Panels and dash panel will be redone to match seats ( like how he did them in the white one I first was looking at in original post) no more buttons.
Stereo will be gone  and dash sano.
I think the emblems with blue/red would look good? Or this version in black/chrome.

I've got the triple whammy.

Hole cut in dash for radio,

Hole cut in deck for power antenna,

Hole cut in console for up/down switch.
