It's my honest opinion but I don't think anything there is of any value other than scrap. Might be able to get $100 for trailer selling outright. There is a Transfer station (modern day dump) in st. paul. They charge about $120 per ton. (maybe only $30 for that boat). Motor could be stripped down and the aluminum scrapped. It's too bad too cause metal scrap prices are really low. Last i looked whole cars where only $40 per ton.

I scrapped a 19' Viking deck boat at a transfer station once

We sell our scrap steel (about 18,000 pounds per trip) to Northern Metals, either at their NE Mpls. location or their site on the Mississippi River. The price for prepared, sorted steel in shorter sections has varied from $75 per ton to $280 per ton. The price last week was $115.

I think for the right person, the motor maybe be usable. If I had the knowledge and time, I would tackle it myself.
Trailer might be fixable?? Needs tires, lights/wiring and pads. Talking with my grandfather, he feels it can be cleaned up.

Because I only had liability on the boat, not much is coming back in my wallet ( sounds like a grand).
So, we are having the talk at home what direction to go. Wife would prefer to use the cash for other things.
But really was an important part of our summers with the kids.
So I may start looking for 17 foot or bigger open bow and play the ask for forgiveness and not permission card.
But my funds are still limited, need to get a better daily driver at some point.
See if my father would sell his older Bayliner, he has only used it once or twice a year.

So, at this point, and dump the crunchy remains of the boat, try to savage motor and trailer. But still on the fence.

idk...that motor looks toast.  You're going to spend lots of money & time getting that usable again.  Every seal is going to have to be gone through, the wiring harness is shot.  I know you want to save it...but look at that melted wiring...its a total rebuild from top to bottom, plus all electrical components.

Find a nice package for $2k and save $2k in the process.  Sell the motor & trailer for what you can get and use it all for a new setup.

Just my opinion of course, but there are a lot of decent boats out there for $2k...(especially in the fall).

I agree. The boat is trashed, the motor might be good for some parts and the trailer could be rebuilt. Not very good news.

Yeah, I think that's the plan. Try a find someone that can use the trailer and motor for parts, invest my time and money someplace else.

I have a similar problem. I am searching for the company that purchases old boats? Do you have something in mind? Someone told me about Fulton Metals Recycling in Atlanta. https://fultonmetalsrecycling.com/commercial-services/demolition/
Maybe you heard smth about this company and could give any feedback?

Thanks in advance:)

A fair amount of time has passed since that thread was active, but having parted out, scrapped, or sold numerous boats over the years, I've never known a company that buys old boats to part them out.  Maybe in bigger boat markets? Boats I've scrapped simply go to the landfill, we keep trailers.  If it was good enough to get it to the dump, then it's worth keeping in my book.  Even when scrap prices are low, the trailers are still worth something.
