Picked up a new outboard today...
« on: May 03, 2019, 05:13:29 PM »
Saw this at a garage sale today and had to get it... I know they go for some stupid money on eBay and I use to find them all over the r.c. world, “but times are a changing”.   I wonder what my scimitar would look like with an outboard.   ???   New project.. ;)

Those little outboards we're the thing to have in the 60's, but I don't remember ever having one that was RC, you just set the motor and did circles or played "catch" with a buddy.  Anyone remember the submarines that used tablets to submerge and rise?
As for a OB scimitar, good model idea, poor full size choice, IMHO.

I remember the submarines .. Guess that kind of dates use Mike .. LOL
There are YouTube video's of crazy fast RC boats, even turbines.

Think the outboard Scimitar picture came from Aaron or someone in Europe, not sure of it's origin.
I like outboards … BUT that's going to far !

Can't remember the name of the boat company, but the CV23 with twin outboard would be COOL !

I also think it’s around 1958..  not sure though. And it is the ones that you just turned on and set steering and hope it would come back.. we use to connect a throttle to them so you could at least control the speed, which wasn’t very fast compared to the one’s out now..

Yes, all metal and all the decals are great. I connected it to a battery and it worked great.  At $599 on eBay for one that has bad decals, I might have to give it a try.   $$$$.    But than again, you have to get someone to buy it...

Nes-cv23,
Your K&O is a 1959. Nice score, it looks good.

The little kid in Gregg's ad is holding what looks to be a 1958 K&O 35hp.  The Johnson V4s were 50hp in 1958 and 1959. 75hp in 1960.

Nice one, and you're right... unbelievable what price they bring nowadays.

Don't think this one is worth much, but had it since i was very young. Now it's missing a few parts like the cavitation plate/small metal pieces held the lower unit together, and the transom clamp used to have like a small cupped piece on the end of the screw, and doesn't work anymore. But, used to place on whatever toy boat I could find, hook up to battery, and throw the switch on the side. I think it was either on or off and couldn't vary the speed.  It wouldn't go fast at all, but still I could adjust the steering and it was cool.  No idea what year it was made.
