Pulled the engine off a hull today....boat is getting a regel with polyflake......Attached...these caps and plugs used to come with the Mercurys from the factory plugging  the line connections in the valve body and capping the hydraulic lines. I always threw them in a box, when you remove the lines you just screw them in/on and no leaks.

Great idea. I do the same with just about everything I remove. The trouble is  I  have a shelf full of boxes to look through when I need something.

My list is short this year, I need to drop the engine back in the CV19ss and finish the Jet overhaul. Just got the engine back from the Dyno and it is ready to go. The jet is repainted and the engine bay is cleaned up and ready for the new powerplant.

The CVZ full restoration is well under way, the more we dissasemble, the more we find rotten.   It had the floor and interior replaced on a previous half resto.   Most of the stringers, floor, and transom are rotten.   The new engine is still at the machine shop, probably will not see it again for awhile, the shop is quite backed up right now.    Here are a fews pics, we have plenty, but I'm sure everyone on this forum has seen rotten stringers before.   I hope to have the hull bare by end of the day this Sunday the 22nd, then maybe start my Christmas shopping.  Stringers, transom, and floor will then be repleced and glassed, then flip it over to repaint and repair hull.   Once back upright, we hope to marry the top back on and perform the bodywork.   Thinking blue and white for colors, seems to be an abundance of yellow CVZ's.   Needless to say, the original gel and flake is long gone, probably why they repainted the top on the last go around.    Hope everyone has a joyous and safe Christmas and hope to be back on the water with the CVZ by Rathbun 2014.

@Plugcheck - What did you decide as far as a motor for your CVZ?

I actually have another thread dedicated to the engine build, but have not made any updates because my poor machine shop is swamped right now.   I tore down a GM 327(OMC Jet drive), 3970010 4 bolt 350 block with 327 crank.   The new engine will be the 350 block, .060 over with scat stroker kit, Vortec heads, hyd cam, 4 bbl carb.   Should make 375-425 hp according to the recipe and displace something like 390 CI.   Thru hull exhaust, possibly captains call.   Should make for a sweet running CVZ I hope.

Sounds good, few of us CVX18 owners that want to stick strokers in our boats. I'll be interested to see what it runs once you get it put back together.

Winter projects.. I got two. A CVC 18 that hasn't been touched in about 2 years and a Nissan Safari to go places no one else can go. Both need plenty of work. Do I have the time? No.

Are we the only ones hauling a boat today?  I am not sure why but decided today was a good day to move the project before we go see the Grand kids..........It just felt right.........body prep to start soon and then a fresh coat of sparkle. Then I will be real anxious for open water to get here.

I need to get my '78 GT-150 done for Rathbun 2014.  I've been to both previous events but I'm tired of being a passenger.

Well…
I'm not going to make any outrageous claims like summer is here or anything, but I will say that it was nice to be able to sit in the driveway with a pan of gas and give my greasy parts a bath.
