Does anyone want one of these?
First picture is the reproduction decal, second and third are original. Looks pretty close to the original. Did you draw that up Tim?
-
No, the are a few areas I would like corrected though.

How much for one Tim? I might be interested in one for my shop.
-
They are pretty cheap. $50 per with a $45 setup fee. The more I buy the cheaper they get.

So $50 each and we split the $45? I’ll take one..
-
Isn't the guy from Poland reproducing them ?
Is this something your doing locally ?
Price seem VERY reasonable !

If you can get the correct black outlines, I think that'll look really close!

I am in. I’ll take one

I will take one!
-
I'll take one also.
-
I'll take one also. Will you be getting an artwork file back as part of the setup? It may look nice on a tee-shirt...Glastron on left chest and Intimidator on the full back

that is a great idea!

I'm going to work with the graphics guy to get the decal as close to original as possible. It is close right now. I'll ask about the file, I'm guessing we will be paying extra for that if he offers it.

I'm in on the Tee shirt ..
Decal would look funny on my CV deck … :o

AFAIK...its pretty standard for you to get the file and ownership of it. You are paying him for it after all.
-
Has this order been placed yet? Did the artwork get updated to include the heavier outline? I suppose I could use one if it helps drive the cost down for others. Thanks.
-
I haven't ordered them yet. Yesterday I sent him a list of the areas I want addressed.

Thanks for the update Tim.
-
If you get a file I’d like to get it as well to print on a shirt. Willing to pay my part of course. My Intimidator never had to bow decal.
-
Isn't Café Express easy and fairly cheap for T shirts ?
https://www.cafepress.com/cgoamn (https://www.cafepress.com/cgoamn)
-
if we own the artwork then I can upload to the CGOAMN cafepress store and we can buy it on whatever we'd like.
-
Did anything ever get finished to get ordered?
-
Everytime I asked about making changes to the design the changes were not addressed. It more or less has died with that designer. I'll try another when I get some of my more important projects done.

Only stuff I have ..
Intimidator Bow Logo

FWIW - I've used 99designs for artsy things in the past (logos, etc) and it worked surprisingly well -
https://99designs.com/
-
These guys wrapped our new boat last year and also put a couple hood decals on my trucks. I’m sure they could do the intimidator sticker if you can get a couple good pictures. There in Farmington.
-
I was wondering, so I called my guy at black fire creative and he said no problem... asked him to get me a quote on 5 decals because I think there was at least 5 of us that want one.. he came back to me with $340 to design them and $54.94 each. That came to $634.28 and devided by 5 and that puts them at $126.86 each all done. The more we get to split the design fee the cheaper they will be. Colors won’t be a problem. I’m not sure if they only came in orange banner and helmet or different colors for blue boats?? He thought we could do them in any color you’d want. Let me know what you think and we can continue.. he is a veteran and I think he does very nice work.
-
Not a bad price overall considering the demand, but I have 2 questions. The first is I thought we already had the base artwork done? Just needed some tweaks. Maybe take what we have now and ask the price for the tweaks? And second, do we, CGOAMN own the artwork when he is finished? Reason I ask is I could see folks wanting shirts, decals, etc?
-
Would make a cool meet T shirt, if we removed the "Timmi" and put CGOAMN logo with meet date and place in banner.
Don't know about rights to Timmi logo ?
-
I agree find out if we would own the completed files. To do T-shirts , decals, etc. Even if the price was a little more it would be beneficial. Then you could sell them on Ebay as well as other sites. They could still be ordered/ printed threw them.

The base artwork Tim had, if that's what you're referring to, wasn't good. Instead of scanning in or working from an original picture, it was hand drawn. Angles weren't right, checkered pattern was off, missing outline lines, flagpole was at the wrong angle. Basically, it wasn't usable.
Owning the artwork is important for sure...in my discussions with Glastron Corp., I have written statements from them that we have free use of their logo's and materials from any of their classic products. So...from that angle, we're covered.
-
I didn’t want to step on anyone’s work that they’ve done so far thats why in needed your thoughts... and yes he will give us what he called a vector file that we can use for other stuff like t-shirts , coozies, or what not. And we can always have more printed from them. I can have him go forward and print one and then have a couple guys that are close to Farmington go with me and check it out. Send me a pm if you want to go with.
-
Is the third picture .. the not quite right one ?
First picture is the best picture I have of original one.
-
From the 2019 Glastron Meet.
-
I sent him these two pictures and measurements from Greg’s post. I’m not sure which one he used.. once I give him the ok I’m sure he will fine tune it. I thought the second one with looking straight down on it would have the least amount of distortion. I’ll send him the picture of the blown timmi, that one looks very nice.
-
Gregg posted a link that has some pics with dimensions, the artist will want these to insure proper scale. Also noticed Jason brought up the artwork ownership topic above as well.
-
Wonder if the one on the blower Timmi is a repo ?

I have a tracing from where the outline ridge was from before we wet sanded the boat so as far as the dimensions we have that covered.
As for what i know about the decals. Most of the originals have some odd shading that correlates with the foam blocks that are under the deck used for support. The one picture with decal in the worst condition shows the discoloration above those blocks.
-
Im sure most of the above pictures were already shared, i just couldn't keep track of which ones.
-
Well what do you guys think? I’ve not heard yes or no yet.. do all you guys still want one? Should I move forwards on the design? I’m not making any money on this so I don’t think we have to worry about glastron.... and they will only be for the club members.. ???
-
$125 each if we purchase 5, a cost that drops as more commit to an order, and the club retains the artwork. Given the desire indicated on the first page of this thread should spread the development cost better. Only remaining question would be who can can QA the produced work? Seems Tim and Doran are the resident experts on the decals, could you guys work with this artist to produce an accurate copy of the original? I'm in for one, let's go forward one way or other.
-
If they are nice I'll buy at least one.

sorry to chime in late here. I guess it went unnoticed because I posted it in Andy’s intimidator thread when the subject of this decal first reappeared. Laurie said she would be willing to work on this project. And was wondering if anybody has a file for the one that is wrong to use as a starting point.

I showed the picture to my sister (she’s also a graphic designer) and she said. Dale Ernhardt is nicknamed the intimidator. Is there a connection? Would possibly explain the helmet. Lol

You cannot build a reproduction off of the one from Tim's guy. A good graphic designer, with professional grade software will be able to take a photo of the original, remove all the background metalflake and start from a good, original foundation. Probably in a couple hours at most.
-
Lol. I disagree With the time estimation.

. Dale got started around 1975 or so, the timeframe could line up, and I remember he had some promotion work with Gambler Intimidator boats, but not sure there was any connections with Glastron. I really do not know a lot about the Glastron Intimidator boats decal or history, but would be nice to have a nicely done copy. I have nothing against you giving it a try on the artwork, not in any hurry for the decal.
-
I wouldn't mind if those images were deleted and we used the original decal. I can get access to this boat if a certain angle/ size/ or whatever if needed. This, other then Andy's, is the best I've seen. The amount of fading over there foam blocks is almost nonexistent. Really the only flaw is the missing piece if the banner. It’s at the designer.... he will scan the picture of the one that was straight down it so there shouldn’t be any angle distortion and then fix the colors. Once that’s done he will print a small one so we can check the colors and anything that might need changes. As soon as it’s ready I’m hoping someone who is close.... “Jeff???” can go with me to check it out before printing the big ones..
-
Sure I can meet you let me know!
-
I'd really like to know the history behind that logo. Just really strange overall. The helmet, dual checkered flags, wind coming through wind screen on helmet?? Regardless of where it came from though, keeping as close to the original as possible is still important from my point of view.

Ok, we will not work on it then. I have 2 comments, first the outline is going to need to be an exact match for any one using it is an original boat due to possible fading in the gel so printing full size and verifying with 1 of the known original boats is prob required. Second the vector file can be used to print on any scale but if we are going to use it for shirts for the meet and want to change it having the source file (most likely illustrator) would make it a lot easier.
Thanks for taking this on Brian

Yeah, or maybe even just a 1mm larger around the edge to cover up that fade/good gel line.

I gave him the measurements off hyperacme post of the rod being 2’7” and the banner at 2’5” I would think if it can get them that size he should be able to make them 1-2 mm bigger to cover fade.
Most vinyl stickers move or stretch a little different on every application so where it’s to big on one sticker it might be to small on the next. ??

Mine has the visible stripes also...hadn't looked into what caused them but it sure could be something underneath.
-
Ok guys here you go... first print. Did it in 1/3 scale. Hard to capture true colors on pictures. but it looks pretty good.. I’ll try to get some in the sun, if it ever comes out again..
-
Here's what I see immediately...
1) Black outline around the banner needs to be heavier. (ie. thicker)
2) Checkered flag needs to connect to the banner under the 'a'.
3) To me..the slits in the banner need to be narrower (thicker black outline may resolve this)
4) The blue 'wave' needs to stretch from the 'n to the i' more...its almost like the banner is flying too 'high' and needs to be adjusted down a bit.
5) I think the color grading on the banner is too aggressive...
-
The border on the banner bolder.
The border on each of the letters thinner.
The ear piece on the helmet is too yellow, original looks to have more orange.
The white reflection in the visor is too bold, thin it down.
The reflection area that shows as a near white area at the top right corner of the visor is not there in the original, the original shows a very faint yellow higher up and below the visor.
The left side of the left feather is mostly blue with a slight whitening through the center.
The right side of the left feather is more white with some blue shading around border.
The left side of the banner needs the darker shaded area brought back to include the two points of the banner.
The right side of the banner needs the darker shaded area brought back to the "r".
The letters "Intimidator" are all in one color.
-
Ok, I think I have them all.... is the intimidator banner all one color with no color change, also the letters all one color? The only parts that have fading are the blue and white feathers? All others a solid color but the helmet with a “shine” on it? I have 8 changes so far. I’ll be bringing it back on Monday to show the changes..

The banner is not all one color. The two triangles on the left side are darker and the right side is darker up to about the "r". The letters are all one color. The feathers, the banner, the mostly blue pole, the top and bottom of the pole (points), the helmet.
I messaged you, give ma a call Sunday.

Ok, let’s try again.... this one is in full size. What do you think? Pretty hard to get photo without glare.. to me the main outline looks a little thick yet and the blue on the feathers needs some attention.

That's looking much better! Would agree that the outline is a little thick and blue needs a little attention, but that's much much better!!!
-
I agree with Doran, the blue needs some adjusting. Was there at one point talk of using a thicker outline to cover up any fade that area? Or did we just have the decal oversized a bit?
Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
-
The only sizing we used was the with of the banner and the length of the pole. So we don’t know how close the rest of it is. It should be all in proportion to those sizes. We could make it a mm or 2 larger all over and hope that’s enough to cover any “shadow”. Right now it’s “hopefully” the same size as original.
-
Id just leave the sizing alone. Adjust the banner outline and the shading on the feathers and be done with it.

Ok, here it is... final draft.. colors are good, boarders are good, size will be like the last one. Let me know how many I need to print? Last time I had a count of 6 so that means price will be $112 each and I’ll have to see what shipping will be also for those that want them shipped.. price will go down the more I can print.. let me know. I’m going to try to have final number by next Friday the 1st. Pictures were taken one in sun and the other not.
