1972 Carlson Glastron Tunnel 16' / original Evinrude 100 HP
« on: February 24, 2020, 07:19:30 PM »
Been talking with a guy that would like to know what his 1972 Challenger is worth.
It's been restored, I ask a few question about that, and will add to post after response from him.
1971 was last year for Challenger's.
His family has owned it since late 70's.

His email to CGOAMN …

I have a restored16 foot 1972 Carlson Glastron GT Tunnel Hull.  It still has the original Evinrude 100 HP motor that runs excellent. The steering wheel is on the port side along with the original throttle control. I have replaced the 2 front / back seats and matched the newer upholstery and carpeting to the seat upholstery.  It has been in our family since the late 1970’s and has been an extremely fun and reliable boat summer after summer.   I take it out every summer and it still performs as it did when it was new for us.  I am torn at the idea of selling it, as it has worked its way pretty deep in my heart with all of the memories and fun its given us.  But I have my eye on a fishing boat, that at this stage in my life, would be more practical and used more than the Glastron.  I have no idea what dollar amount to ask for it.  And frankly haven’t been able to find an accurate value amount on either NADA Boats or Kelly.  Would you be able to tell me what it might be worth?  Its in excellent condition and I was thinking that a collector that is a member of your organization might be interested.

Thanks much
Rick

I can't help out with the value. Might just need to throw it up for sale high and see what happens. The Challenger is definitely the most common of the old Carlson models though. Not necessarily rare.

I can say those are some beautiful pictures of the boat though! Might need to be in the 2021 calendar! Get some high res images for me Gregg.

Sent email asking for hi res pictures.
So … maybe $3000 ?
More .. Less ..
CV16 outboards in nice shape go for about $2500 to $3500.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I'd be interested in seeing the badging on it. Like you said Gregg, 71 looks like the last year for that hull. And even in 71 the name was changed from Challenger to CH-16.

I added his number to the list.
http://forum.cgoamn.com/index.php?topic=5964.0

Should be a 1971 ..
Has G/C side emblem and dash "G" ..
His motor is a 1972 .. going by decals.
$3000 might be high, with out original seats, and haven't seen condition of trailer.

I would be interested...

But some details required - trailer, location, detail of stringer / transom work... the normal stuff
