« on: September 14, 2012, 11:03:39 AM »
Hello my name is Igor, from Worcester MA...

Recently got a 1974 Glastron Carlson CV 16super and will be working of get her into the water next spring.

Started to work on the engine, it's an 1981 Evinrude 115 hp.
Ordered the parts last night.  Work will realy start next week when the parts are in.
Spoke with Gregg via PM on Classic Glastron about the trailer and steering on these boats and got some good advice... (Thank you Gregg).

Will keep you guys posted with progress on the boat.

Igor

Very nice boat! Crazy how we have the same skeeter trailer too!!

I modified the front of my trailer to bring the winch tower down and to shorten the trailer

Jason,

I think Gregg was asking you for pics of your trailer to show me.
Tower on my trailer is from a different trailer as well.  It's lower and has a longer reach giving me more options of position.
I still need to get the trailer bunks higher by about a 1/2 -1 inch to clear the fenders.

This trailer is from year 2000 but has never been used.  I got it from a local marina that used to sell skeeter boats and he has a few trailers in the yard from back then but have never been used.  He gave me a statement of origin from the manufacturer when I bought the trailer.

I tired using the original bunk mounts as well but the hull was sitting WAY to close to the fenders. I ended up cutting off the welded on brackets and got all new adjustable bunk brackets as you can see in the one picture to raise the boat up. Sorry it's been taking me so long. I will get them. Any measurements or anything else you need?

Your trailer might actually be a foot or two shorter then mine too.

I think my trailer is a 99 and was originally from Arkansaw. I bought it from a guy in Iowa though.

I also plan to pull of the skeeter decals. Another club member made me some green Glastron Carlson decals to put there instead.

LOL..
Mine never started this year...
I sold my O'day mariner sailboat this spring and didn't find this little "jem" until a few weeks ago.

Yep ...
Thats the one and cable is 11 foot.
Don't forget to replace all motor to steering nuts & bolts with SS bolts and nylock nuts.

Gregg,

When you wetsanded your boat.
Did you just sand the metalflake area or the entire boat?
What's a good product to get rid off yellow on the bottom of the hull?

Thanks,

Igor

I did everything ... Gel & Flake .
If it's real bad you might need muriatic acid but be careful of any metal parts.
If it's not bad it might clean up with medem to heavy compound.
Start with least aggresive on a small spot and work up to more aggresive if your not getting good results.

Top side looks good, I did try the combination restore and polish that I had in a garage.
It didn't get as dark/bright as some of the spots that are not effected by age.. :)
I will try 1200 - 2000 - 3000 wet sanding and then wax on topside..
Lower area I might have to experiment with...

 ;D

Guess I can do that while waiting for the engine parts to come in..
Gregg, did you wetsand by band?

Used power for wet sanding, compounding, FI2 and waxing.
Would take forever by hand ...
Four of us did Tim's boat in one day.

Some thing like this should work ...

For waxing ...

Gregg,

I used to own a custom cabinet shop for about 7 years and we did a lot of finish work.
On flat surfaces we always used power tools (still have most of them).
The reason I asked about it in this case, I don't know how much clear coat is on the boat... and if you cut into metalflake it will not be a good thing.

For buffing the finish It will be an orbital buffer.

Keep rpm under 2800 on buffer, and keep tool moving.
The flake is in the gel, there shouldn't be any clear coat unless PO did it.
Gel/flake is pretty thick stuff, look for a chip out of hull/deck to see how thick it is.
If you take your time and are careful you shouldn't have any problems grinding thru gel/flake.

It's raining all day.   :'(
Nights are getting colder and my parts for the engine won't come in until Thursday.
And won't be able to get any work done this weekend due to family gathering we need to go to for two days.  What a life...  ::)

Guess, I will go and get myself a scotch and relax.    ;D
