Looking for Ford 302 mercruiser I/O components
« on: September 04, 2012, 02:44:54 PM »
My project for late winter/spring will be fitting a ford 302 into a Glastron X-19 Conroy.
i have located 3 possible complete donor boats on CL, and 2 people that have misc parts, but i wanted to see if anyone here
has, or knows of reasonably priced parts in MN/WI area
Thanks
Joe

Joe

this one has been on CL for a while.

Inboard V8 motor, 200hp, Ford 302.
It came out of a '70s Glastron runabout.
It spins free, no cracks in block or anywhere. Complete with manifolds and raisers. No starter.

$ 300 or best offer, located 30 miles south of Minneapolis.

Your best bet is to find a complete parts boat and pull everything off of it. Trying to piece together a setup will nickel and dime you and be frustrating trying to figure out everything you need. Speaking out of experience when I did this on my boat, I would look for a donor boat with power steering. I am looking at options to add it to mine now and it's a pain to try and piece it together now since it didn't come with it.

After many calls and contacts i have come to that conclusion (find a complete donor),
of course i thought i had done that when i got the 18' Steury with the 302.
but it had a 215E out-drive ???, i did notice it was big but had gone about 70mi to get it so figured what the heck, $200 with trailer.
BTW the 215 I/O stuff is for sale.
I have found lots of piece meal stuff, but as you point out, one missing part and i could spend much more than i saved.
All that said, i have a donor lined up for $500, even has extra props.
when im done i will have lots of extra parts, including a motor.
Thanks for all yer input  :)
