Just picked up a Glastron that has me a little confused, I have had a few over the years but never kept one very long. Used to work for a Marine in the Prior Lake/Savage area and still flip a few boats every year for fun. I don't know what exactly I just bought but I like it... Ad said 1974 GT, bow decal says GT, dash emblem says CV, looks more like a CVSS I owned a few years ago (for a month), might have a little to much motor rigged up for the boat (Rude 235hp) but it seems to handle it fine! Would like to upgrade the steering, if anyone has suggestions that would be great!! It likes to start chine walking a little at 70+, Also need some advice on repairing a few chips in the gel cost on the hull & keel. Who is good and reasonably priced?
A guy I met that works at RSI in shakopee told me about CGOAMN and the web site, thanks BTW! I will post a few pics of my new find and see what the Glastron Guru's have to say. Thanks in advance for any input!
The wife & I keep our Curisers in Red Wing (Ole Miss Marina) and I am definatly down for the August run I have read about... Nice & close to Harbor Bar!!
Thanks, Scott

First, welcome!
That boat must move out! A 235 on a CV16!? Anyone remember what they're rated for? 120HP Outboard is what the '76 Brochure says...I'll bet that boat fly's.
Looking forward to seeing it run at the Aug meet!
-
Welcome MOJO, beautiful boat!!!
16'/235hp... This dosen't seem safe!
I'll have to agree, but what a ride right?
-
First of all, WELCOME!
What a beautiful CV16.
It’s got the 74-76 dash. I'd say it's a 1975. Only year blue and white was available with an outboard.
Yea, be carefull with that motor. Anything over 50mph in the CV's gets kind of scary and I bet 80 is not out of the question with that motor!!
Hyperacme (Gregg) is going to be pumped to find you on the board!

There is a cvx16 out there, canada I think, with a 235 on it. Numbers if I recall were High 80's with more throttle to play with. :o
-
Had 74 on GPS and there was more motor left! I need to upgrade the steering before I try a WOT run... any suggestions? Been looking at SeaPro Hydraulic systems but they are kinda spendy!! Any one know where I can score one or a maybe a Teleflex dual set up??
My wife & I are super stoked to play with this thing this summer! She called it a "muscle boat" when she first saw it, it's like a old school Chevelle 454SS but for the water...
Thanks again for the help!

Jerry "Jerry" has an extra dual helm steering system that should fit.
-
WOW !
The CV of my dreams ...
BEAUTIFUL !
I love it ... I want it ...
Looks like a 1975 CV16, forsure ...
Hard to type with drool all over keyboard ...
Can't wait to see it on the water !
The Evinrude scares me, just lookin' at the pictures ... 74 mph ... OMG !
-
If you guys need me, I'll be here lustin' for his CV ...
"Also need some advice on repairing a few chips in the gel cost on the hull & keel. Who is good and reasonably priced?"

Sweet, how do I reach Jerry?
-
50sflash@comcast.net
Got it & message sent. Thanks!

The sticker on the bow says GT, shouldn't it say CV? You can kind of see it in this pic, I need to get a new one but want it to be correct...
Hyperacme, Thanks for the help!

Mojo
You can find (most) of the G/C brochures here ...

Couldn't find any good pictures of decks in the 1975 brochure,.
Pretty sure the CV's had "GT" stickers on decks, my 1976 had a CV sticker.
In the 1975 brochure the CV16V8 has a CV sticker on the motor cover.
You can get a GT sticker here ...

Mojo I have a 72cv 19 and it has the Gt emblem.
-
Sounds like the GT emblem may be correct then... Also if anyone knows where I can get a nice cover for this baby, I would appreciate the tip on that as well. The original one I got with the boat is falling appart. Thanks for all the input!
We name all our boats and still have not come up with anything yet for this one. Sometime it takes a little time to figure out the personality of boat and see what name just falls into place...
I suggested Blue/Balls but the wife didn't sound to sure about that one. Think about it, old blue & with a 235, it definately has balls!
If anyone has a good suggestion, lets hear it!!
-
How about
BLUE BYE YOU
-
I like that one but it borders on cocky... maybe?
-
For me personally, I don't like anything dirty or with a double clean/dirty meaning (ie. Wet Dreams)...I like how you worked your wife's name into your cruiser. I'd vote for anything along those lines.
-
My 74 cv16ss says CV. I thought only the early models said GT like the 72.... Could have been replaced at somepoint on your 75.
-
well you can be from Louisiana
BLUE BAYOU

I recently bought a cover (off eBay) for the GT-150, and I'm very pleased with the quality and fit. It's a place called "Vortex Direct", free shipping and very reasonable prices ($70). It's not a true "custom fit", but seems to fit well and very well made.

Hard to see in the 1974 brochure, but sure looks like they have CV stickers on all Carlsons.
Both stickers are available from members of CGOA.
SO ... It's just a matter of which you like best ...

MarkS thanks for the link, I am ordering one today!
Hyperacme, I think I am going with a new GT sitcker. Pretty sure I saw them listed in one of the parts threads on here... Thanks!
Hopefully I can meet Jerry later today and pick up his dual helm steering set up, Thanks for all the advice/help from everyone! I am really enjoying this site!!
-
Your 75 G/C should have the CV sticker, the older cv16's before 1974 had a GT sticker if they were an outboard, the CV16 I/O's before 74' had the CV sticker.
-
Nice ride MOJO. Can't wait to go for ride in that speed demon!!!!
-
The CV-16 was available in blue in 1973 and came with the GT emblem. You should have a hull number on the outside of the transom.
-
His has the 74-76 dash. That's why I say it's a 75 as it has the new style dash panel and it's blue with white.
1973 dash:

Had it out for a run! Fun boat!! Drinks a little fuel...
-
Nice pics, thanks for sharing them!
-
YEAH MOJO, I HAD A CUSTOM COVER MADE FOR MY '77 CVX16 BY HARKEN CANVAS, LOCATED IN PEWAUKEE WI FITS LIKE A GLOVE. GET READY FOR THE STICKER SHOCK, I PAID 750.00 BUT IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
B=BREAK
O=OUT
A=ANOTHER
T=THOUSAND
I WISH I HAD PICS BUT BOAT IS IN STORAGE WITH OLD COVER ON RIGHT NOW
-
You have a good looking boat. Does that stern sit low in the water with that motor?
The Smurfs are blue and white, go by names like Poet Smurf, Greedy Smurf, etc. ... how 'bout coming up with something like "Speedy Smurf" ??
-
thats nice.be safe with the 235hp and the jack plate.watch the transom.be safe airing that beast out.(my two cents)-run a hydraulic steering kit like teleflex seastar pro,any performance boat that runs over 60mph should have it.the down fall is it is costly about 650.00 on sale on line.i had it installed on my baja the year before last, steers like a dream. one thing you cant put a price on is safety.
-
I think MOJO post is old. We talked to him last fall on our river run out of Red Wing down to Alma. Said he had sold the boat was looking for a inboard CVX18 or an Intimidator.
Not sure how serious he was. He has a crusier that he slips in Red Wing.
-
You're right, Jeff. I didn't look at the date - just saw it pop up as something with a new comment.
-
Sweet Ride!!!
I have a cv-16 I need to restore, I also would need an engine too, wonder if I can use such a large power hog, on my boat, without getting caught and ticketed from the lake patrol because of over powering the cv-16
not sure that i can afford such a large power hog, but would be nice to know if i have that option
thanks
-
It would be a good idea to keep it around the 115 HP range.
CV's are a wild ride at 50 plus mph !
-
I got you! over powering = Danger
I will take your advice on the 115 HP range
I have a lot of research to do
-
With that much iron hanging on the ass end of the boat I a suprised it doesn't go glub glub when its sitting in the water? LOL
